At last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, it’d only been weeks since the Mondo crew (who you really oughtta be following by now on Twitter via @MondoNews) announced their acquisition of the Lord of the Rings license. Fantasy fans were pretty thrilled about that headed into the Con (several people told me Tyler Stout was “definitely” going to show up to the Con and drop a new poster set for Peter Jackson’s franchise), but they had a different, equally exciting surprise waiting for them that week: the start of a Game of Thrones series. We’ve seen a ton of Game of Thrones-themed prints since then, but the two dropping tomorrow—from artists Aaron Horkey and Richey Beckett—are two of the best in the whole run. We’ve already set this one up about as much as we needed to in the intro (you skipped the intro again, didn’t you?), so let’s just get straight to the money shot(s). Here’s what Mondo has to say about the Game of Thrones prints it’s releasing tomorrow:
Tomorrow, we will release the final set of posters in our GAME OF THRONES series leading up the premiere of Season 3 this Sunday, March 31st! We will have an amazing new poster, "Canus Dirus," by Aaron Horkey that features 11 colors in total as well as metallic inks. We will also release a screen print of one of the originals from our GAME OF THRONES gallery show, "Bran Stark," by Richey Beckett. Both of these posters feature gorgeous illustrations from two insanely talented illustrators.
Rumors have been swirling about a Horkey Game of Thrones for weeks now (maybe it got confirmed somehow during SXSW or something? Or just a lucky guess?), and when the image started circulating earlier today our first thought upon seeing it was, “Well, that’s even better than I expected”. See for yourselves:

Mondo has seriously stepped up their game over the past month, no? Ansin’s Taxi Driver, Stout’s Django Unchained (hell, virtually everything at the Stout & Taylor show), Horkey’s Game of Thrones…good lord, won’t someone think of all those innocent bank accounts?! Everyone else can focus on Beckett’s contribution to the series:

You heard ‘em, Slappy: stay tuned for the Tweet, and make damn sure you’re on high alert when these suckers drop tomorrow. It seems like it’s been quite some time since Mondo had a Horkey drop, so there’s a good chance some of you newcomers have never experienced the horror, the sorrow, the ecstasy, and the cosmic junk-punch that is your average Horkey drop. Think: Stout, Moss, Ansin, etc. Better yet, focus on practicing your checkout maneuvers starting, like, now.
