A bit of minor casting news tonight for the Les Miserables fanatics among you: Aaron Tveit (Gossip Girl) has joined the cast. Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, and Eddie Redmayne are confirmed to star. There was some doubt about Amanda Seyfried‘s involvement when Universal left her off the official cast list earlier in the month, but THR lists Seyfried in the confirmed. Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter have been linked to the roles Monsieur and Madame Thénardier, but the official word has yet to come in.
Tom Hooper is directing the musical as his follow-up to a Best Director Oscar win for The King’s Speech. Les Miserables is scheduled for release on December 7, 2012. Hit the jump for the official synopsis, including a breakdown of who is playing which part.

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption–a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette (Seyfried), their lives change forever.
In December 2012, the world’s longest-running musical brings its power to the big screen in Tom Hooper’s sweeping and spectacular interpretation of Victor Hugo’s epic tale. With international superstars and beloved songs–including “I Dreamed a Dream,” “Bring Him Home,” “One Day More” and “On My Own”–Les Misérables, the show of shows, is now reborn as the cinematic musical experience of a lifetime.
According to THR, Tveit will play Enjolras, “who leads a student rebellion in the streets of Paris and orders Javert’s execution.”

Is anyone else curious as to the casting of Amanda Seyfried as Anne Hathaway’s daughter?
as a fan of the Musical I can say that it makes sense since when Anne Hathaway’s character is alive Cossett is like 8 or 9 years old.
