Fox to Distribute Timur Bekmambetov’s 3D Adaptation of ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER

20th Century Fox has picked up the rights to Timur Bekmambetov’s 3D adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. The novel’s premise is that Grahame-Smith (who also wrote Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) found Lincoln’s secret diary which chronicled the 16th President’s fight against the undead.  Bekmambetov (who previously directed Wanted) and Tim Burton picked up the producing rights to the book back in March, and Bekmambetov said he was coming on board to direct in August.

According to Variety, Fox made a grand overture to win the rights to the project, with such showmanship touches as bloody footprints and a bugle player with a Confederate uniform playing “Taps.” Vampire Hunter’s budget is projected at $69 million and pre-production is scheduled to begin immediately for a 2012 release.  Hit the jump for the book’s synopsis.
