Part historical fiction, part zombie thriller, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter will surely offer an interesting aesthetic blend on screen.  I’d very much like to see what director Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) and his crew have in store — for now this pair of set photos will have to do.  If nothing else, we see Dominic Cooper in costume as Henry Sturgess and what may be Benjamin Walker as Abraham Lincoln.  No sign of vampires yet, but vampires do not show up in photographs, so…

Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anthony Mackie, Alan Tudyk, Jimmi Simpson, and Robin McLeavy also star in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, scheduled for release on June 22, 2012.  See the set photos after the jump.

On Location Vacations posted this photo taken on New Orleans set by @jackimontroy:

It’s hard to tell from this angle, but On Location Vacation suggests the one on the right might be Walker.  If so, he’s not even wearing the facial hair or stovepipe hat, so what’s the point?!

Here’s the synopsis for the novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith (who also wrote the script):

Indiana, 1818. Moonlight falls through the dense woods that surround a one-room cabin, where a nine-year-old Abraham Lincoln kneels at his suffering mother’s bedside. She’s been stricken with something the old-timers call “Milk Sickness.”

“My baby boy…” she whispers before dying.

Only later will the grieving Abe learn that his mother’s fatal affliction was actually the work of a vampire.

When the truth becomes known to young Lincoln, he writes in his journal, “henceforth my life shall be one of rigorous study and devotion. I shall become a master of mind and body. And this mastery shall have but one purpose…” Gifted with his legendary height, strength, and skill with an ax, Abe sets out on a path of vengeance that will lead him all the way to the White House.

While Abraham Lincoln is widely lauded for saving a Union and freeing millions of slaves, his valiant fight against the forces of the undead has remained in the shadows for hundreds of years. That is, until Seth Grahame-Smith stumbled upon The Secret Journal of Abraham Lincoln, and became the first living person to lay eyes on it in more than 140 years.

Using the journal as his guide and writing in the grand biographical style of Doris Kearns Goodwin and David McCullough, Seth has reconstructed the true life story of our greatest president for the first time-all while revealing the hidden history behind the Civil War and uncovering the role vampires played in the birth, growth, and near-death of our nation. this movie starts when he is very, very young.thats why he is missing his trademark look.
dont be ranting like that without reason…

In this scenario where it’s not a silly joke, but a rant: what am I ranting about?

Well if that was Lincoln in the photo one can obviously deduce that this is not the earlier time period in his life because these are clearly adults in the photo.

Therefore no hate or beard would be needed.

Also its just looks like they are shooting the shit and not shooting a movie so maybe its in between takes.

        Long story short: relax

people will rant for the sake of ranting.

i swear they better not mess up this movie cuz the book is awesome.

I think some changes would be good.

This book was way too drawn out in certain aspects of the story and the writing made it hard to stay with.

Well I have to say, I went into this book not knowing what to expect but once I started I read it all in one day. Given the way the book is written on the the 10 journals, I don’t think there’s much of a chance of messing it up.

Now in saying that, for the movie they’ll have to tame down some of the incredible gore ie: The description of the way they tortured the soldiers to a slow death by hanging them up side down, spreading their legs and and sawing them in half from the groin up and keeping them alive until the saw reached their chests .. Just can’t seeing such a scene getting past the censors LOL
