Jennifer Saunders, creator and co-star of the cult-favorite TV series Absolutely Famous, is planning to bring the BBC comedy to the big screen. There are already three TV specials ready to air on the BBC, and Deadline reports that Saunders “hopes to pen the feature film next year once she has finished work on the Spice Girls London stage musical Viva Forever.” Excuse me while I pick up my exploded brain at the news there’s a Spice Girls London stage musical. I had to check a calendar to make sure my time hadn’t been warped.
Since I’ve never watched an episode of “Ab Fab”, here’s Deadline’s description: the series followed “best friends Edina (Saunders), an international PR guru by trade but a 1960s teenager at heart, and Patsy (Joanna Lumley), a sex-crazed magazine editor.” The story will reportedly have “Patsy and Edina waking up hungover (and without their cell phones) in the drifting yacht of an oligarch in the middle of the ocean.” If you’re an Ab Fab fan, do you think that’s a good plot for a movie?
