First Trailer for Real Life Navy Seal Film ACT OF VALOR

     October 12, 2011

The first trailer for Act of Valor, the action pic whose cast is made up of active duty Navy SEALs, has been released. The film started in earnest as a recruitment video for the U.S. military’s Naval Special Warfare Command until Relativity picked it up and decided to turn it into a feature film. The flick’s origin makes a lot of sense after seeing this trailer, as it plays very much like Call of Duty The Movie. There are a couple of first-person shots, lots of explosions, slow-motion, and multiple missions. I’m not exactly sure where the story fits in here, but the concept is intriguing enough and I’m interested to see what kind of film they’ve put together.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. Mike “Mouse” McCoy and Scott Waugh direct from a script by Kurt Johnstad (300). Act of Valor opens February 17th, 2012. [Update: We’ve been sent the official poster for the film, which is now included after the jump.]

Here’s the official synopsis:

An unprecedented blend of real-life heroism and original filmmaking, Act of Valor stars a group of active-duty Navy SEALs in a powerful story ofcontemporary global anti-terrorism. Inspired by true events, the film combines stunning combat sequences, up-to-the minute battlefield technology and heart-pumping emotion for the ultimate action adventure.

Act of Valor takes audiences deep into the secretive world of the most elite, highly trained group of warriors in the modern world. When the rescue of a kidnapped CIA operative leads to the discovery of a deadly terrorist plotagainst the U.S., a team of SEALs is dispatched on a worldwide manhunt. As the valiant men of Bandito Platoon race to stop a coordinated attack that couldkill and wound thousands of American civilians, they must balance their commitment to country, team and their families back home.

Each time they accomplish their mission, a new piece of intelligence reveals another shocking twist to the deadly terror plot, which stretches from Chechnya to the Philippines and from Ukraine to Somalia. The widening operation sends the SEALs across the globe as they track the terrorist ring to the U.S.-Mexico border, where they engage in an epic firefight with an outcome that has potentially unimaginable consequences for the future of America.

If you watch this video with no sound, the Team America theme will play in your head. I’m so pumped.

Recruitment video or not, it looks pretty impressive. At least on par with any other military themed fictional piece out there.

propaganda bullshit dont fall for it, its all new world order programing there looking for dumb uneducated 18 year olds to send off to die and guard the oil and herion fields.

    • knowledge

you’re not making any sense keyboard warrior. If it uses real navy SEALS and real military tactics and weapons then how is it propaganda? If someone watches Zoolander and wants to become a male model does that make it propaganda? If someone watches this and wants to enlist then do everyone a favor and say, “thank you.” Whether you believe in the higher ups who are making the decisions or not, these men are putting their lives on the line for the beliefs of a nation dictated by individuals elected by the people (regardless of whether or not the person you actually voted for won). I’ll correct myself: if you’re from the US say, “thank you” and support the troops regardless of whether or not you support the people making the decisions. If you’re not from the US then I don’t know why you care at all about the individuals who enlist as opposed to the people who make the decisions that “send off” those who enlist.

Shane, some slight spelling and grammar corrections:

    1) Capitalize propaganda
    2) Don’t instead of dont
    3) It’s instead of its
    4) Programming instead of programing
    5) They’re instead of there
    6) Heroin instead of herion

Now with these 6 minor adjustments, your lazy, a-typical anti-establishment response carries more weight!

Couple of thoughts come to mind that do make me uncomfortable with this movie. One a couple shots of the experimental tech junkie stuff, it puts me in mind of something like Battlefield, SOCOM or COd, which for a movie isn’t a good thing given I can have much more immersive experiences with games then I can a movie, film’s strength being its cohesive narrative.

Secondly, contrary to popular belief, action movies got a hell of a lot better when we started grabbing good actors and teaching them how to play fight and pretend military, vs the other way around. Case in point, think of any athlete, fighter or otherwise martial arts expert. 7/10, they can’t act, so it doesn’t matter that its them doing the stunts and tricks because as an audience you don’t give a shite about nothing else going on with the character. So there is a concern guys who know and do military at a professional level, don’t act on a professional level, so you’re working under a handicap for the story.

I think the film is more of a documentary than an actual film with a plot.

Seems to me it will be about one or two navy seals dealing with the job, who will remember flashback style a few of their missions.

A strange mix of action movie with documentary on elite serving soldiers.

Ahh! So happy the trailer finally has come out. I saw a screening last week and was blown away!!! Best action movie I’ve seen in a long time. If I was to compare it to any other war movie it would be the quality of Black Hawk Down. The tactics they use are so bad ass.
