In recent years, Adam Sandler as found a cozy home at Netflix, where he’s turned out comedy specials and feature films for the streaming network. The giant deal reportedly came as a result of Netflix’s all-mighty algorithm, which pointed to Sandler’s massive star power, even as box office returns dwindled for his theatrical releases. By all available metrics (which are, in the Netflix tradition, very few,) the experiment was a success, and four years since his 2015 streaming debut The Ridiculous Six, Sandler is still in business with the streaming service.
Their latest team-up lands in June, and it’s got another major household name on-board — Jennifer Aniston, who reunites with her Just Go with It co-star for Netflix’s crime comedy Murder Mystery. Sandler and Aniston star as a NYC couple on vacation in Europe, who wind up the prime suspects in a high-profile murder. Aniston had a big Netflix success of her own last year with the charming teen comedy Dumplin’ and considering Friends is reportedly the second-most-watched show on the streaming service, you can bet they’re just as happy to have her star power on board.
Written by James Vanderbilt (White House Down) and directed by Workaholics co-creator Kyle Newacheck, (who previously worked with Netflix on the action-comedy Game Over, Man,) Murder Mystery also stars Luke Evans, Gemma Arterton, Luis Gerardo Mendez, and Terence Stamp, and will debut on Netflix in June 2019.
