Sundance Selects has released the first trailer for directors Martha Shane and Lana Wilson’s controversial documentary After Tiller.  In the wake of Dr. George Tiller’s murder, the film chronicles the lives of the only four doctors still currently performing third-trimester abortions.  Obviously this is incredibly touchy subject matter, but the film looks to approach the issue from a fairly objective standpoint, delving into the lives and choices of not only the aforementioned doctors, but also the people that are seeking out late-term abortions.  It seems like a fascinating and emotional watch, and I’m interested to see what insights are gleaned from the film as a whole.

Here’s the official synopsis for After Tiller:

AFTER TILLER intimately explores the highly controversial subject of third-trimester abortions in the wake of the 2009 assassination of practitioner Dr. George Tiller. The procedure is now performed by only four doctors in the United States, all former colleagues of Dr. Tiller, who risk their lives every day in the name of their unwavering commitment toward their patients. Directors Martha Shane and Lana Wilson have created a moving and unique exploration of one of the most incendiary topics of our time, and they’ve done so in an informative, thought-provoking, and compassionate way.
