AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Hires Adrianne Palicki to Guest Star as Bobbi Morse a.k.a Mockingbird

     August 19, 2014

After the incredibly disappointing first season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. the series is returning with a new gameplan: guest stars, guest stars, and guest stars.  Kyle MacLachlan is playing Skye’s father; Lucy Lawless is playing veteran S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Isabelle Hartley; and Reed Diamond is playing Hydra baddie Daniel Whitehall (a.k.a Kraken).  THR is now reporting that Adrianne Palicki will be making an appearance this season as Bobbi Morse, a.k.a. Mockingbird.  According to THR, Morse “will appear in the fifth episode of the Marvel procedural with the potential to return; the episode will find her popping in perhaps not as an ally to Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team.”  While Palicki is a likable presence, her casting and the casting of other guest stars doesn’t address the show’s larger problem like the bad writing, dull main characters, and crummy special effects.  Hopefully, season two is where Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. comes into its own instead of being that TV thing Marvel does.

Hit the jump for the Comic-Con video where agents Billy Koenig and Sam Koenig (Patton Oswalt and Patton Oswalt) teased the appearance of Morse in the new season.

Typical Matt. Reminding us all how you HATE this show while delivering some more GREAT news about the show…..MOCKINGBIRD!

    • appolox

Yeah I really wish he would save his opinions for editorials. Obviously us fans will be excited about this news but then the guy writing the article has to be a killjoy and spoil the fun for everyone!

  • mattinacan

i’m with you, season one was a big disappointment. This had all the makings of a Firefly in the marvel universe, how did they possibly fuck this up so bad.

  • Hey…HEY!

Maybe Bobbi Morse will be a rogue S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and Coulson and his team will have to find a way…To Kill a Mockingbird! Dun, Dun, Duh!

  • Kyle Chandler

“While Palicki is a likable presence, her
casting and the casting of other guest stars doesn’t address the show’s
larger problem like the bad writing, dull main characters, and crummy
    special effects.”

Haha. Had to get in a dig, huh? Here’s a list of other things that casting guest starts won’t fix, while we’re at it:

    1. Deathlok’s costume
    2. soggy cereal
    3. clark gregg’s hairline
    4. boko haram
    5. the line in x-men about what happens to frogs hit by lightning
    6. the lingering question in my mind if skye is annoying, or hot, or annoying and hot.
    7. a broken heart

    • Mike

Annoying. Hot but not hot enough to put up with her “acting.”

      • LEM

She’s cute not hot which doesn’t give her a pass on cringe worthy acting.

  • Agent777

You get Kyle MacLachlan and waste him as “some chicks dad”. Weak.

    • Reggie

Actually, it’s hinted that she is an alien, possibly an Inhuman or Kree, so he will probably be playing an alien either a Kree or Inhuman.

      • Kyle Chandler

He could be playing Mar Vell!

        But probably not.

      • agent777

        Here’s hoping.

  • LEM

Maybe Marvel will be better for her than DC was.

  • Dan_K

My huge crush on Palicki is almost enough to make me more interested in this show. Not knocking it, by the way. I’m just not that siked by it.

  • theseeker7

jesus… I think “incredibly disappointing” is just a wee bit harsh. Yea it took plenty of time to get its footing, but the large majority of the second half got to a worthy level.

Certainly give me something like this instead of the 37th copy of another CBS procedural.

  • Aaron Sullivan

I thought the show turned around pretty well. I like all the actors, I think the dialogue is decent has some punch and some decent humor, but yeah the story was just going nowhere and the characters had no interesting internal struggle going on for at least half the show. I wouldn’t have been able to tell you what any of them really wanted out of life except Coulson. There is no way around how dull that made the show.

It’s amped up pretty well though. It’s enjoyable to watch the characters find their way in a fall out situation. The character’s trajectories aren’t as in-step. The show is less schizophrenic about how violent/adult to be (it settled in at about the level of the movies and sometimes worse). There’s some good potential going forward.

uggg … you don’t get any more b-list than Mockingbird … i was really hoping for a real superhero as a regular in season 2

    • Ellieinto

Maybe one of the heroes from Marvel’s other new TV shows can visit?

    • JD-McG

The show is called Agents of SHIELD? I’m pretty sure the cast is going to stick to being SHIELD agents…

      • eternalozzie

MANY superheroes have worked for shield over the years

      • JD-McG

Occasionally worked with… not for. Iron Man was head of Shield for awhile but RDJ is not showing up on ABC as a recurring character. I can’t really think of any other main ones except Hawkeye, Black Widdow and Mockingbird. The Hulk recently but that’s completely impractical for TV and I assume Spider Woman is owned by Sony. Shield is always around heroes showing up after they save the day or providing information but the majority of them aren’t a part of Shield. Anyway they just gave you an Avenger on an ABC TV series about SHIELD agents. Quit complaining, the show is about shield not the Avengers or any other hero. That’s the primary complaint most people have about the show and I don’t get it. It’s about SHIELD agents! Mockingbird is an Avenger in the comics (or was not sure of current status) and a good substitute for not being able to get Black Widow as a recurring character.

Would’ve rather not known the role Kyle MacLachlan was playing. Every other news outlet has placed that info after the jump at least. Don’t ruin shit for the rest of us, please.

  • Friday

    Big Mistake, Really BIG Mistake.
Thats not MockingBird, talk about ruiening the best character ever.
There are better choice’s out there, shame on them.

  • Matthew Markovich

I just finished watching the complete season for the third time and I still love it. Were there problems? Sure but name me one scifi/action series that didn’t have problems especially the first season.

    • Strong Enough

      3rd time? lawd half mercy

  • Zarles

    Crummy? Are you 12?

  • the king of comedy

I`m not familiar with the character, big fan of the Marvel movies but I don`t like this show so I`m not really interested, but that girl is absolutely beautiful
