Though Marvel takes their time and adds a lot care to ensure that their movies and universe are tied together, what about the TV Universe? Aren’t the movies and TV the same? For fans that watch Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. they know there’s a big disconnect between the two. And what happens when a member of the cast speaks out about the issue?
Chloe Bennet, who plays Daisy Johnson, formerly Skye, attended Wizard World Des Moines (via Bleeding Cool) and participated in a Q&A at the event. When asked why the Avengers aren’t showing up on the show despite Hive’s scheme to build an army of brainwashed Inhumans, Bennet took a jab at the folks behind the MCU films, saying:
“I don’t know. People who make movies for Marvel, why don’t you acknowledge what happens on our show? Why don’t you guys go ask them that? Cause they don’t seem to care!”
Think she’s being candid with that one? Here’s what she said when a fan asked if she’d like to appear in an MCU film herself:
“The Marvel Cinematic Universe loves to pretend that everything is connected, but then they don’t acknowledge our show at all. So, I would love to do that, but they don’t seem to keen on that idea.”
Bennet was definitely more outspoken about the issue than one might expect, but who can blame her when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is supposed to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? However, given that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is now the only Marvel network show, it seems even more unlikely that they’ll bother to bridge the gap anytime soon seeing as Marvel won’t even call up their costumed heroes of Netflix’s The Defenders made up of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. And though it’s always a battle for TV superheroes to crossover to the movie side of things, the question could be asked, is Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. better standing on its own? For fans of the “connected universe,” I have a feeling the answer would be a resounding, “No.”
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. did receive a series order for season 4 by ABC so maybe if we wish hard enough, Marvel will finally include at least a few Avengers to appear down the line. But probably not.
