Disney has released another new minute-long TV spot for the upcoming live-action remake of Aladdin. The adaptation of the 90s animated classic hails from director Guy Ritchie, who’s known for his gritty stories about scrappy men, and who aims to combine that style with a colorful, vibrant fantasy with the Disney blockbuster.

This new TV spot offers up some new footage, including new looks at Will Smith’s Genie who… basically is still coming off as Hitch. Robin Williams’ performance is impossible to recapture, so going a different way was necessary. But I don’t know, Smith’s take on Genie feels almost too grounded to me. Case in point: a top-knot joke in this here new ad. Perhaps it’s a character that works better within the context of the film.

I was a huge fan of the fun and verve Ritchie infused into The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and the unbridled insanity effervescent in the underrated King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, so I was primed and ready to embrace his take on Aladdin. But what we’ve seen so far feels almost neutered and lacking any signature authorial style, so I’m curious to see what the full film holds.

Disney hasn’t really had a misstep yet with its live-action remakes, and while I’m partial to the thematically-grounded ones like Pete’s Dragon and Cinderella, there’s no denying the box office appeal of reimagining these beloved films for family audiences. Will Aladdin be a Beauty and the Beast-sized hit, or will it be the first to fizzle? We’ll find out next month.

For now, check out the new Aladdin ad below. The film also stars Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, Marwan Kenzari, Navid Negahban, Nasim Pedrad, Billy Magnussen, and Numan Acar. Aladdin opens in theaters on May 24th.
