Alan Silvestri, who’s responsible for such iconic scores as Back to the Future and Forrest Gump, has been hired to compose the score for Joe Johnston’s upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger.  A few weeks ago, we told you that Disney-staple Alan Menken was being brought on the film to write one or two original songs for Captain America, presumably for a scene involving a USO show.

Silvestri’s had quite a varied career, scoring films ranging The A-Team to Stuart Little. Hopefully he crafts something memorable enough that it’ll be tough to think about Captain America without hearing his themes. Film Music Reporter [via The Playlist] states that a number of composers were considered, including Michael Giacchino and John Powell, but Marvel ended up going with Silvestri. Captain America: The First Avenger hits theaters in 3D on July 21st.

Hope this music is powerfull, memorable and emotional. His Back to the Future score is all that i mentioned! Brilliant! Infact, till today i thought it was by John Williams!

A lot of films these days are let down by poor or rehashed music scores. Many dont seem to hit that climactic level, especially at the right moments.

Bit worried about the time period too, when is cap out? i thought it was soon?

The film comes out in June, and they’re just now hiring a composer?
