The first images of Tyler Perry not wearing a dress in the James Patterson adaptation Alex Cross have gone online. Directed by Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious) the film is based on Patterson’s book I, Alex Cross, and Perry stars as the titular detective who was previously played by Morgan Freeman in the Patterson adaptations Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider. More interesting, though, are the first images of Matthew Fox as the film’s villain. He looks absolutely insane and ripped out of his mind. I literally stared at one image for 10 seconds before I realized it was Fox who was putting someone in a Hulk-ed out choke hold. It’s honestly kind of disturbing.
Anyway, hit the jump to check out the images, which also feature Edward Burns as Perry’s partner. Alex Cross opens on October 26th.
Here’s a synopsis for Patterson’s novel, I, Alex Cross:
You can’t run
Detective Alex Cross is pulled out of a family celebration and given the awful news that a beloved relative has been found brutally murdered. Alex vows to hunt down the killer, and soon learns that she was mixed up in one of Washington’s wildest scenes. And she was not this killer’s only victim.
You can’t hide
The hunt for her murderer leads Alex and his girlfriend, Detective Brianna Stone, to a place where every fantasy is possible, if you have the credentials to get in. Alex and Bree are soon facing down some very important, very protected, very dangerous people in levels of society where only one thing is certain–they will do anything to keep their secrets safe.
Alex Cross is your only hope to stay alive
As Alex closes in on the killer, he discovers evidence that points to the unimaginable–a revelation that could rock the entire world. [Amazon]

jesus matthew fox looks insane! it might be worth watching just for him!
Matthew Fox looks hideous in this movie.
Daaaang Jack. All that Dharma food must have been loaded with steroids.
This just might be the first time I’ll go see a Tyler Perry movie… crazy.
Wait… Ed Burns is playing a cop? Unprecedented.
And Fox looks badass.
Lmfao…
Matthew Fox as the new Punisher anyone?
Strangely enough, yes. BUT it feels like they just can’t get the Punisher right, on the creation / production side… Maybe if they did the war journals they could capture him better. I dunno. Not a fan of the others.
Love me some Matthew Fox…looks like he went for the Machinist ala Christian Bale & got side tracked with some roids…awesome!
This will be the only movie I will ever watch with Tyler Perry.
Remember when Fox hit that female bus driver in the crotch not too long ago? So I’m guessing that was roid rage.
Where the hell is Alex’s partner, Sampson? I guess Hollywood won’t allow 2 black leads because then it would be a black movie. This would fall just short of The Rule of Three.
Interesting too is his shoulder tattoo carries over from Lost.
wow, how the hell did he get that way? he always seemed to be in good shape, but that’s another level of crazy.
DAMN!!!
Fox prepped for this movie!! There has GOT to be a superhero role in his future. If he doesn’t drop dead from whatever the hell he’s doing!
Agreed, though a super villain looks more accurate here. He woulda made a perfect Mr Zazz in a Batman film, etc..
he kinda reminds me of TAXI DRIVER if they remade it, and give him a mohawk.
sigh… Collider, you don’t EVEN TRY to be an accurate movie site anymore??? It has never been, despite the generic title, based on “I, Alex Cross” but (loosely) on the book “Cross”, thus your synopsis is the wrong one…
And Fox’s look is fitting for the maniacal, crazy killer Michael Sullivan, so kudos to him! I’m sure he will be disturbing & terrifying, i.e. FANTASTIC!!!
Holy sh*t … Matthew Fox as just shown me that he wants to star in a superhero flick. Based on his lithe and ripped frame he could easily be Deadpool, Daredevil or the Punisher.
Damn, Matt Goldberg … get your ass to work and talk to some industry people. If you’re doing a “Gina Carano for Wonder Woman”, you can do the same for Matthew Fox.
No no no….CASEY JONES of TMNT!!!
tyler perry for shaft , make that happen
i could totally see him playing superhero or villain now, and WANT TO!
“Tyler Perry is, Tyler Perry in, Tyler Perry’s: Tyler Perry. Directed by Tyler Perry.”
Matthew Fox looks like Demi Moore on G.I. Jane
Lets see, there are more pictures of the white co-stars than there is of the black star, yep this is America alright!
Lets see there’s a liberal crybaby complaining about not casting more minorities in a movie. GTFO of the country if you don’t like it…
Don’t think this a liberal issue. Have you read any Alex Cross books? Black man with a black family, black friends, and black coworkers. So to keep close to the book, it would make sense. Everything is not a crybaby complaining about minorities.
Roids for breakfast?…Matthew
Fox says “Yea sure!”
Does Tyler Perry dress up like Medina and go mano a mano with Mathew Fox in a comedic, climactic showdown?
So that people like you(everybody to be honest) don’t make jokes like that, they should have cast Idris Elba. He is way more attractive, far superior in the acting talent and totally fits the character from the books.
Tyler Perry makes a terrible Alex Cross. All i see each time he is on screen is Madea. His lips are ridiculously looking that i can’t help but laugh and not take anything he says seriously. They are way more younger and attractive looking African-American actors out there to pick from yet they decided on Tyler Perry.
I can’t even believe they once picked old man Morgan Freeman. Did anybody adapting the stories ever read the damn books? It’s ridiculous how much they mess that part up.
Tyler Perry will be fine as Alex Cross. He fits the description from the James Patterson books as a black man over six feet tall, etc. With the release of “Good Deeds”, Perry began redefining himself in movies and it is good that he is not directing himself this time so that he can focus entirely on his characterization. I think he will surprise a lot of people, but not me, because he has already evidenced a grasp of moviemaking in the films he has already made.
