Casting on the Baywatch movie continues, and this thing is actually shaping up to be pretty darn promising. Nabbing Dwayne Johnson as the lead was the first step in the right direction, then Zac Efron signed on to co-star, looking to further hone his comedic skills after a swell turn in Neighbors. Now, a few weeks after a shortlist arose regarding one of the film’s female leads, Johnson has announced that his San Andreas co-star Alexandra Daddario has come away with the role, beating out other contenders like Nina Dobrev and Ashley Benson. Although here's hoping there's no romantic link between Johnson and Daddario, who played father and daughter in the disaster pic.
But that’s not all! Daddario will be playing the character of Summer, meaning the Batwatch movie is keeping some of the iconic characters from the TV series. Nicole Eggert portrayed Summer Quinn on the TV series from 1992 to 1994. During her short tenure on the hourlong drama/soap/"Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue on TV", Summer’s character tackled issues of domestic violence bulimia. And you thought Baywatch was just for the slow-motion running.
Johnson teases that the casting for the role of CJ Parker, aka Pamela Anderson’s unforgettable character, is forthcoming, so I’m definitely curious to see who else is donning a one-piece for the comedy adaptation.
Horrible Bosses helmer Seth Gordon is directing the picture, which is planned as a very R-rated movie and finds Johnson playing a very serious by-the-book lifeguard who is forced to team up with a young hothead (Efron) in order to save the beach from environmental destruction at the hands of an oil tycoon. Is it just me or does this movie sound like a ton of fun? Sound off with your pick for the new CJ in the comments below, after getting a look at Johnson's Instagram piece that announced Daddario's casting.
