Alice Eve (She’s Out of My League) is currently in negotiations to play telepathic mutant Emma Frost in Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class. Deadline doesn’t have any details beyond that, but I can see Eve in the part. The roles of Professor Charles Xavier, Magneto, and Beast have been filled by James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Benjamin Walker, respectively.
For those unfamiliar with the character of Emma Frost, she was formerly known as “The White Queen” and was a member of the villainous mutant super group, The Hellfire Club. In addition to strong telepathic powers, she also has the ability to shapeshift her skin into a diamond form that grants her increased strength and durability. Frost also possesses a dry wit and is known for her rocking body and highly revealing clothing, although I don’t think any of those really counts as a superpower. The character briefly seen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but I keep doing my best to pretend that movie never existed. Hit the jump for more on Frost. X-Men: First Class is due out on June 3, 2011.
Created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, Frost first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #129. In 2001, Grant Morrison made her an integral part of the X-Men and introduced her secondary “diamond skin” power. As a member of the X-Men, Emma Frost and Scott Summers (aka Cyclops) began having an affair while Scott was married to Jean Grey (also a telepath). In my opinion, Frost and Cyclops had far more chemistry than Cyclops and Jean Grey, and Joss Whedon really took it to a new level when he wrote Astonishing X-Men. I’m curious to see if Vaughn and writer Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass) will weave that love-triangle into the movie (I wouldn’t be surprised if they did). Of course, it hasn’t been confirmed that Cyclops and Jean Grey will be in the flick, but it’s mostly presumed they will be since they were among Xavier’s first students in the comics.
