Tonight, casting agents found actors most of their supporting roles based on real-life people:

  • Ashley Charles will play Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards in the Jimi Hendrix biopic All Is By My Side, led by Andre 3000 as Hendrix.
  • Martin Scorsese cast Margot Robbie as the female lead opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street, based on a memoir by Jordan Belfort.
  • Seth Meriwether signed on to play one of the West Memphis Three in Devil's Knot.
  • Donal Logue will play the right hand man of CBGB owner Hilly Kristal (Alan Rickman) in CBGB.

Newcomer Charles joins Imogen Poots and Hayley Atwell in the supporting cast of All Is By My Side.  According to THR, Atwell will play Keith Richards' girlfriend Linda Keith, who discovered Hendrix performing in a nightclub.  John Ridley is directing the shoot in Dublin.

Adapted by Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter, The Wolf of Wall Street chronicles Belfort's rock star lifestyle and ultimate demise on Wall Street.  Variety says Robbie will play Belfort's second wife, Nadine.  Teresa Palmer and Amber Heard also reportedly tested for the role.  Robbie was plenty charismatic on Pan Am, so I like the end result.  Jonah Hill, Kyle Chandler, and Cristin Milioti also star.

According to Variety, Meriwether is the second newcomer to be cast as one of the West Memphis 3, a group convicted of killing three boys in Arkansas in 1993 despite the absence of physical evidence (they were released in 2011).  James Hamrick and Kristopher Higgins play the other members of the West Memphis 3.  Reese Witherspoon, Colin Firth, Mireille Enos, Collette Wolfe, Kris Polaha, Amy Ryan, and Dane DeHaan also star in the crime drama, directed by Atom Egoyan.

CBGB is a look at the punk rock scene in New York through the eyes of Kristal's legendary club.  The setting allows for a revolving door of famous musicians: Malin Akerman as Debbie Harry, Taylor Hawkins as Iggy Pop, Rupert Grint as Dead Boys guitarist Cheetah Chrome.  Joel David Moore and Stana Katic also join Logue in the supporting cast.  According to THR, Randall Miller (Bottle Shock) will begin shooting CBGB later this month in Georgia before moving to New York.
