Take a trip to London in 1966 by way of writer-director John Ridley's Jimi Hendrix biopic, All Is by My Side.  In the film's first trailer, Andre Benjamin stars as the legendary rocker in a film that looks to explore not only Hendrix's rise to fame, but his struggles against the prevailing social stigmas of the day.  I'm not sure what percentage of the film will be dedicated to musical performances, but this trailer gives a nice taste of Benjamin's talents both as an actor and a musician.  He also appears to get a lot of help from his supporting cast, which is a blessing and a curse since he might not be able to rise above all the talent surrounding him.

Also starring Imogen PootsHayley Atwell, Ashley Charles, and Ruth Negga, the picture opens in the US on September 26th.  Hit the jump to watch the first All Is by My Side trailer.

Here’s the synopsis for All Is by My Side:

Described by writer-director John Ridley (12 Years a Slave) as one of the most rarely told stories in rock history, “All Is By My Side” charts just over a year in a man’s life.  The year he blossomed and became Jimi Hendrix.  The year he spent as a young musician trying to make it on the streets and in the clubs of London, England.  The lovers, friends, and musical collaborators, who helped him get there.  Starring Andre Benjamin in an electrifying performance as Hendrix, “All Is By My Side” also features a stand out supporting cast including Hayley Atwell, Imogen Poots, and Ruth Negga.
