Sony has released the first 8 minutes of Cameron Crowe’s Aloha, and while I don’t know if it will sell tickets, it certainly illustrates how the movie is screwed from the get-go. As a fellow critic pointed out after our screening, it feels like we came into the movie 30 minutes late and missed some important information. Crowe throws a lot at the audience and doesn’t do it particularly well. After re-watching the clip, I still don’t fully understand Brian’s (Bradley Cooper) job. I think he’s a contractor and he’s hired because of his military connections, but he’s also a former pilot who doesn’t seem to understand that you need to use a headset to communicate on the plane. He was also injured in Kabul, and that part is poorly explained later in the movie, although why exactly he was in Afghanistan in the first place is still never really explained.

Watch the first eight minutes of Aloha below and understand why the movie is so bad. The film also stars Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams, John Krasinski, Bill Murray, Danny McBride, and Alec Baldwin. It wastes pretty much all of them. Click here for my full review.
