20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, the third movie in the series, and it’s absolutely painful. Really and truly. It’s basically Lost with annoying pop song-singing Chipmunks. The story finds Jason Lee and his Chipmunks “chipwrecked” on a desert island after a luxurious cruise. Lee is split up from his chipmunks, and said chipmunks wonder how they’re ever going to find their master in between singing Lady Gaga songs. I guess kids will enjoy it, but this is one of those kids movies that has zero appeal to the parents that are dragged along.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The voice cast features Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler, Jesse McCartney, Amy Poehler, Anna Faris, and Christina Applegate.  Jason Lee, David Cross, and Jenny Slate will reprise their live-action roles.  Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked is scheduled for release on December 16th.

  1. Mr. Chitwood..
No amount of ranting, on your behalf, Will deter others from enjoying this family feature. You seem to have little knowledge of this subject matter. (Who knows. Maybe a bad upbringing?) This series has been around since 1958. It deals with a single man who became an instant father to singing chipmunks. They aren’t pets. An entertaining fable. No different from The Muppets, or anything Disney makes. The characters are known internationally and have fans globally. So if this knowledge pains you.
I recommend you drink gin with rat poisin to stop your suffering!

    • this is an oddly hostile and unexpected attack. didn’t realize their are Alvin & the chipmunk fanboys out there. I’m pretty sure he ws just complaining that this movie doesn’t seem like it has appeal to adults AND kids much like the muppets (one of your examples) always has

  2. Whoa, I never thought I’d see fan bitching on an Alvin and the Chipmunks post.

Anyway, I just wanted to point out that you’re confusing Alvin, the lead chipmunk, with David, their human “father” played by Jason Lee.

And, well, I liked the Chipmunks cartoons when I was a kid and now I’m too old to enjoy these dumbed-down movies. So that is all.

  3. This actually looks more watchable than the first two. The only thing that bothered me the most about these movies was their size compared to humans. I realize they’re chipmunks, but they were much larger in the cartoons. I hope nobody is dumb enough to reply to this and argue about the realism behind it either, because you wouldn’t have a leg to stand on.
