Netflix has been making moves to bump up its original documentary selection and this fall will see at least three new, major works premiere on the streaming services. For auteurists, the release of new works by Werner Herzog (Into the Inferno) and Ava DuVernay (The 13th) is the major coup but then there's Amanda Knox, an attempt to suss out what exactly happened amongst the media madness that surrounded the murder of Meredith Kercher and her titular suspected roommate.
The film is directed by Rod Blackhurst, who directed Here Alone, and Brian McGinn, one of the chief architects of Netflix's Chef's Table, and today, the first two trailers for the film arrived. One takes the side of guilty while the other takes the side of innocent, but the real intriguing element is a core interview with Knox that will likely anchor all the reportage and investigation. There's a similarity to the style of the great Errol Morris in the clips afforded here, and if Amanda Knox ends up being half as fascinating as his recent output, Netflix will have at least one hit on its hands this Fall.
