Director Marc Webb Says Filming Has Begun on THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

     February 5, 2013

Spidey has returned to web-slinging.  Director Marc Webb has tweeted that production has begun on The Amazing Spider-Man 2.  Details on the film are still scarce, and likely will be for some time.  We only know the villains, but we don’t know how they’ll factor in.  There’s also a host of new characters, and we have to wait to see if this is when Gwen Stacy will have her famous fall.  Webb also tweeted that movie is anamorphic, it’s being shot on film, and included a set photo of “Phil the Camera Operator.”

Hit the jump for a brief recap of what we know so far.  The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Sally Field, Jamie Foxx, Shailene Woodley, Dane DeHaan, Paul Giamatti, Felicity Jones, and Martin SheenThe Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in 3D on May 2, 2014. [Update: we've added another set photo after the jump.]

Here’s a brief recap of what we know so far:

You’ll see his whole life is just no one is talking to him, people have stolen his ideas at the company, he’s a nobody.  And at a certain point Spider-Man bumps into him and says, ‘You’re my guy, you’re my ears and eyes on the street,’ and he says his name, Max, and no one’s ever said Max Dillon’s name, and he goes ‘Wow.’  And so when Spider-Man leaves he sort of thinks that somehow, ‘I am Spider-Man’s partner,’ and so he starts cutting out his face and pasting it on his board at home.  When everything goes bad, his mom doesn’t remember his birthday, I mean all these crazy things happen until finally he has something tragic happen, and then when it turns on he lights it up.”

He also said that the character’s costume “is really slick, it’s actually black, but it’s the new age.”

Finally, here’s the photo Webb tweeted of Phil the Camera Operator:

How is this being shot on film? If they want to show this movie in 3D like the first one, they’re must port-convert it, and that usually looks pretty bad.

  • tarek

Of course they will post convert it. Only People who care about the cinema and the fans will do it the right way ( Sir Ridley, Jim Cameron, Peter Jackson).

It will be a new flat 3D hack like the first one,

  • varagor

The first one was actually shot in 3D, hence my surprise.

    • tarek

What they said. Still I don’t believe them. It was obvious that they filmed only small parts of the movie in 3D. The rest is plain and painful 2D .

I for one am glad it’s being shot on film. 3D sucks horribly anyway. Certainly not worth the premium price.

It wasn’t the bad 3D that made the first movie suck, it was the movie itself that sucked. Each of the actors were perfect for their roles, but the movie squandered every ounce of potential it had. Does Gwen find out who Peter really is in the heat of action when their lives are at stake? No… he tells her, on the balcony, after dinner. Do we get to witness Doctor Connors horror and terror as he goes from having his arm back to becoming a terrible monster? Nope… we cut to that very same dinner… for 10 minutes… where we establish NOTHING about the characters we didn’t already know! Fun! Not to mention BING! Yes Bing! The wanna be search engine. Twilight Breaking Dawn used Google to learn about Vampire Sex, why can’t Spider-Man use Bing! to learn all about his past? Because it’s stupid and a LAZY form of exposition! Not to mention they replaced “Nuke the fridge” with “Turn the Crane!” The whole thing was a wast of good hard earned dollars, I would have gotten more out of my time and money if I’d taken my 12.50 and turned it into tokens so I could play Deer Hunter in the lobby.

Only redeeming quality about the first film were the special effects/action scenes, everything else was either corny, rehashed or just plain boring. I was rooting for it too, but it was ultimately a boring, uninspired film.

It’s strange how people state Amazing spider-man wasn’t up to par as a result of contract deals that would have lost Sony the movie rights if it wasn’t in production by a certain time frame, yet this sequel seems to be even more rushed. For the first time ever I am not looking forward to the new spider-man film, it all seems like a cash grab that’ll result in crappy film…hopefully i’m wrong.

there has to be a less aggravating way to leave a comment, i had written several sentences regarding these news and it disappeared after clicking enter, it’s happened a couple of times before.
