The Amazing Spider-Man sought to establish its version of Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) as one that's independent from Sam Raimi's trilogy; the sequel is now looking to do the same with the character of Harry Osborn. A college-age friend of Parker's, Osborn is the son of brilliant industrialist Norman Osborn, who was mentioned in the original film. The Osborns might get along with Parker, but they each fight against his alter-ego. Garfield will return as the web-slinger in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, as will Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy. Shailene Woodley will appear as Mary-Jane Watson and Jamie Foxx will be a highlight as the villainous Electro. Who will step into James Franco's shoes as Harry Osborn? Hit the jump to find out.

Heat Vision reports that Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is still developing the character of Harry Osborn. Originally built for a bigger, more athletic actor, the role has developed into something edgier and darker, as is to be expected these days. So who is being considered? Well tops on their list is Dane DeHaan, one of the leads from director Josh Trank's surprise hit, Chronicle. DeHaan definitely showed off his abilities in that film, so to speak, and is no stranger to going some place dark. He would also be convincing as a character that has to match wits with Parker, rather than just being a physical adversary. Other contenders include Alden Ehrenreich, who will be seen in Richard LaGravenese's Beautiful Creatures adaptation and Brady Corbet, who starred in Melancholia. The list of actors may expand as the Osborn role is reportedly still evolving.
