Marc Webb is a talented director, but his true talent may lie in tweeting.  Webb has tweeted a number of great behind-the-scenes photos from the set of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.  The latest Webb tweets give us a much clearer introduction to Paul Giamatti as Aleksei Sytsevich (aka the Rhino) after a grainy set photo previewed the makeup.

Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Dane DeHaanShailene WoodleyPaul GiamattiFelicity JonesChris Cooper, and Sally Field also star.  The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens May 2, 2014.  See the full image after the jump.

Webb doesn’t just tweet photos—he tweets photos with international style:

I believe both tweets translate to “Hello, America.  Meet Aleksei Sytsevich!”

Official synopsis:

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

I’m glad to see the movie is perpetuating the “russian bad guys wearing track suits” stereotype. Good on you, Marc.

oh man I can totally judge an entire character based on one image from one second of a 120 minute movie…best to withhold judgement until there’s footage people

  • Drake

At least he looks better than Electro so far…

I have no reason to be excited for this movie — the first one was mediocre, Jamie Fox is the villain, Spider-man feels like it’s being run into the ground — but Paul Giamatti as Sytsevich has me all kinds of excited. Also, Dane DeHaan as Harry seems like a good casting choice, especially if they go the New Goblin route (although that would just be repetitive).

so you do have a reason so be excited? not having a reason to be excited about the movie then at the same time being all kinds of excited about a character in the movie is what we call a contradiction

What I was trying to say was, while this movie is not interesting in any way, I’m anxious to see Paul Giamatti as The Rhino.

        That still makes no sense.

How do you know that Dane DeHaan is a villain? He might be in the second movie because they are introducing Harry Osborn as a friend for Peter Parker in high school or college or whatever… Chris Cooper who is playing Norman Osborn is in the film too and for all we know, he might become a father figure to Peter and maybe at the end of this film, he turns into the Green Goblin before the credits roll. So really, TAS2 only has two primary villains: The Rhino (Paul Giamatti) and Electro (Jamie Foxx).

I have to say that looks fking awesome, that’s by far the craziest looking Giamatti that Ive ever seen,

  • armando luna

I think Rhino in this film will be a man in a miniature rhino-like tank rather than a man in a giant rhino suit.

  • Vic Twenty

Well, if you’d told me the most memorable villain in Robocop would be Kurtwood Smith, looking like, you know, Kurtwood Smith, I wouldn’t have been too excited either. It is what the actor does with his time on the screen that matters. I hope Paul kills it, cause you know he can.

  • Discus

I HAD hopes, but this pic is just another nail in the coffin. The night time scenes in a Spider-Man film (he’s not bloody Batman!), 3 villains in one (recalls another mediocre Spider-Man film – Spider-Man 3 (and fyi, Raimi’s trilogy is still the best.)), Paul Giamatti as the Rhino (are you serious?!) the blatant changes from the source material.

I have no desire to watch this.

    • Nerdgasm

… Number one they have only announced Rhino and Electro. Two Villains not Three. Norman Osborn is in it but Cooper said is time on set is limited meaning he’s not the Goblin for the movie. Maybe they hint at it in the end. So just Two Villains. You obviously are not a Spider-Man fan cause the two main ways he fought crime was either during blank periods in his class days or at NIGHT. And there’s no BLATANT changes to the source material other than Electro being black. You praise Raimi but he had more blatant changes in the story like having the Webbing Be organic and having MJ as his sweetheart. Also Green Goblin looked like a goddamn Power Ranger and the only thing that was right about number three was the portrayal of Sand Man. Raimi made Peter Parker into a whiny bitch which was also a stray from the comics. In the comics he is cynical and pretty much hates life. Fighting crime mirrors his time at school cause he’s bullied and laughed at school which is what he does to his villains. He puts his rage into his super fighting. Now that didn’t REALLY come across in Webbs rendition but his rage by Uncle Ben’s death and how he treated bad guys did and they did a better job with that par tof the character than Raimi ever attempted.

      • GunzOfNavarone

I couldn’t have said that better.

  • spongefist

He has had a lobotomy, which makes him charge around a lot without thinking things through. He also gets angry easily. Which all adds up to this being even more shit than the first, which was incredibly shit. And yes I did garner all this from just one image because that’s how obvious and predictable these movies are.

    • Kool Moe Joe

Oh no, he gets angry easily, I guess Batman is shit too.
