Spidey Has to Catch a Bus in New Set Photos from THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

     May 12, 2013

The set photos from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 continue to roll in.  This past weekend, director Marc Webb gave us an official look at Paul Giamatti as The Rhino, and now we not only have more images of tattooed Giamatti, but Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) engaging in some superheroics.  That bus full of innocent passengers will most likely be saved unless Webb is considering a dastardly twist where Spider-Man lets it fall on the little girl.  In all fairness, she is wearing a stupid-looking backpack.

Hit the jump to check out the set photos.  The film also stars Emma Stone, Dane DeHaan, Shailene Woodley, Felicity Jones, Chris Cooper, and Sally FieldThe Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in 3D on May 2, 2014.

Official synopsis:

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

I think Paul already has the Rhino strength and push the bus over. I hope these are not over the top characters with overacting, because that’s what it looks like.
Here’s hoping that it is not.

Damn, that suit looks like it’s straight from the comics. I’m loving it.

  • killabee

I think this movie has a lot of potential, hopefully it is great but I think it’s gonna be an above average movie that people kinda forget about like Thor.

  • Ben Wigler

oh my GOD. I’ve held out the hope until these images… what a freaking mess. Sweet lord. Is it really time to kill off Spider-Man? How has Marvel let this character be run SO into the ground? Good freaking lord. How hard is it to get SPIDER MAN right?

…can someone PLEASE explain to me why one of these idiotic studios can’t just choose a classic arc or graphic novel and just SHOOT IT. It’s a COMIC BOOK. Aka… they made the storyboard for you. Just freaking SHOOT IT.

I’m sorry Spider-Man, but you are now dead. Andrew Garfield, I apologize to you on behalf of all the dumb-ass ticket buyers who have allowed the numbers to dumb your character down to the point where you can’t ever actually be Spider-Man. You clearly would have been a great Spider-Man, if anyone were interested in… you know… making an even quarter-way decent Spider-Man movie, and NO, the Sam Raimi movies don’t count. And anyone who thinks Spider-Man 2 was any less of a messy crap-fest, I have sympathy for you… of course you want to believe there was at least one decent Raimi-era Spider-Man, but no, aside from the scene where Doc Ock’s tentacles go on their first killing rampage, Spider-Man 2 sucked ass. And the Broadway Musical? Sacrilege.

What a shame. This is the only hero I’ve ever been personally invested in. I genuinely can’t believe that Iron Man has fully taken over from Spider-Man as the wise-cracking, super-entertaining marquee character. But then again, that’s what happens when you focus on getting the tone & character right first (and, admittedly, story second, as well as the obligatory product placement…)-

    Sorry again, Spider-Man.

It’s not Marvel that’s running it into the ground. It’s Sony. All Marvel can do is sit by and watch it happen. I’m not even sure they get money from it.

    • Holy

Oh my lord…. this is just set photos.

They’ll get it right eventually – and it gives you something to look forward to.

Actually, in order for them to make that perfect Spider-Man movie you’re imagining, you should be telling everyone you know (and don’t know) how much you LOVE the movies so that everyone will want to go see it.

Do you really think they’ll make more Spider-Man movies if the franchise doesn’t make money?

      • Lex Walker

If Sony stops, the rights would revert to Marvel and then we’d get one worth watching. So maybe the better answer is tell everyone you know NOT to see the new ones.

Good point! But I have my doubts about MARVEL, too.

    • peter

this are just set pictures that tells nothing about the plot story acting effect anything calm down seriously if you dont want to watch it then dont come here to whine about it the people who likes it are still going to like it no matter your opinion

  • Andrew Hegele

it would have been hard for Raimi to make a good Spider-Man 4 with the bitter after-taste of Spider-Man 3. The same can be said for The Amazing Spider-Man 2… only instead of a bitter after-taste it’s more of a nothing-taste. air. blank. like a yogurt or something. maybe i’ll forget even more of the first film by the time this comes out. might be a good thing.

  • Nick Gadman

People freaking out over set pictures already…. for crying out loud. I think set pictures can be huge spoilers, Batman fighting Bane in the snow amidst a riot, Bane atop camo painted Tumbler, very spoilery. But a stuntman dressed in a spidey costume saving a bus, that may be a long distance shot…. doesn’t exactly give a key plot device away..

If it isn’t Marc Webb posting these it is someone else. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. People, we live in the information age…. I wouldn’t look for this crap online if it upsets you and you don’t have to look beneath the cut either.

I’m not a fan of set pics to be honest, spoils the magic, but ffs you can’t judge the quality of a movie on them and we all knew this wasn’t going to be Citizen Kane.

  • thewriteguy

Imagine the crossover possibility if the Asian man holding the little girl was the same actor who played the doctor in those lame extra footage sequences shot for Chinese viewers in Iron Man 3: “Peter doesn’t need to do this alone. China will help.”

  • Alan Burnett

“That bus full of innocent passengers will most likely be saved unless Webb is considering a dastardly twist where Spider-Man lets it fall on the little girl. In all fairness, she is wearing a stupid-looking backpack.”
Yeah, alright, TAKE THAT LITTLE GIRL!

At first I thought the suit looked ridiculous, but oh yeah – color correction. The suit will look fine after all the colors are balanced right.

  • Rockslide

I’m just glad they are shooting in daylight this time. Spider-Man is a bright, day time character. The Amazing Spider-Man was too dark. Glad to see this one lightening up. Hopefully the Rhino actually gets the Rhino suit at some time. As goofy as it is, I grew up with that goofball and loved him. A big CGI Rhino done like the Avengers’ Hulk would be awesome.

    • Nerdgasm

You apparently never read the comics if you think that he was a BRIGHT DAY TIME HERO. His suit was a juxtaposition to who his character was and when he fought. The character is dark, his ‘WITTY’ banter with villains was him playing with them like a spider does to a fly. He isn’t nice and never was. He’s a dick and a dark and twisted character cause of all the death in his life.

Is this Spider-Man? Or just some imposter in some cheap-looking suit from Amazon? My god, Paul Giamatti does look completely stupid (does he wear that idiotic face the entire time). This looks like some cheap children’s cartoon.

    Pass. This crap is doomed.

    • yay

Yay more overreaction from set photos. These comments are fun to read.
