Sony has released nine new images from The Amazing Spider-Man 2.  A couple images show off more of the Rhino (Paul Giamatti), another provides us a look at Stan Lee, one has Dane DeHaan doing some filming, and so forth.  But the big one is a studio exterior painted with “Sinister 6″.  That’s about the biggest confirmation we’ve received thus far that The Amazing Spider-Man franchise is headed towards the supervillain super-group.

Hit the jump to check out the images.  The film also stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Felicity JonesChris Cooper, and Sally FieldThe Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in 3D on May 2, 2014.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Amazing Spider-Man 2:

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

I still think this movie was unecessary and Spidey should go back to Marvel. But that first pic looks great — really looks like a comic book panel made real.

Raimi destroyed Spider-man the first go ’round because his bad elements over shadowed the good ones … Sony has done a lot better this time around with better writing and character development. Casting is better too. I like Webb’s more serious approach … it felt more like a teen super hero would feel in real life not that that makes any real sense. The little bit of Spidey-sarcasm written into the Garfield version of Spider-man make it feel more like the comics too.

Plus, that fight with the lizard in the school was too cool

        The only scene worth watching.

Spider-Man is a solid, but cheesy, comic book movie before comic book movies were huge. Spider-Man 3 has some good action and villain (Sandman), but was a big letdown with a lot of bad plot points and character moments. Spider-Man 2 is one of my favorite comic book movies, with a great blend of action, heart, and humor. The trilogy was very entertaining and a great representation of the character.
There is almost nothing I liked about Amazing Spider-Man. The Reptile looked really dumb and had no reason to be evil, other than he went insane after the experiment. Peter and Gwen were really awkward around each other. They remade several scenes from the original movie.
Overall, just wondering why you think a giant lizard using a gas to make other people into giant lizards is “more serious”.

        This

      • AlexTheKaiser

It’s more serious than a villain actually saying “oh-oh” before getting cut in half.

      • Paul Green Decena Man Thing

Doctor Connors wanted to take away people weaknesses. He was trying to help people but he was corrupted so he saw that being human was a weakness in its self. He was never really a villain, he wanted to help people but even if his way wasn’t necessarily the best way.

Jeez do you apologists ever take a hint? ASM was mediocore at best… Hate to tell the Raimi haters this but the reboot had the lowest B.O. of any Spidey film to date.. I guess basically filtering Spidey through a Twitlight lens wasn’t so awesome.. But If ASM 2 plans to ape the Avengers instead of Tween fiction I’ll call that an improvment..

      • Ohem F. Gee

Using Twilight as a comparison immediately invalidates your argument. There’s no freakin’ love triangle in this movie, the romantic scenes were actually very well done. And since when does box office measure the quality of a movie? By that logic, you’re saying Avatar is the best movie of all time…

      • Me

I’m not refering to a love triangle.. I’m refering to Spidey being turned into an unlikeable teenage dochebag like just about any character in any Twilight film.. And yes a film’s B.O. doesn’t account for quality but let’s face it if ASM was an improvement than how come the rest of the world missed the bandwagon then? Apologists have had this trolling coming so don’t try it..

      • Ohem F. Gee

Unlikeable? He was much more relatable than Tobey Maguire’s version, sorry to inform you. And that argument of people missing the bandwagon makes no sense, it’s their problem they judge a book by its cover and live in their unrealistic skepticism. Let me inform you that 95% of the skeptics turned out enjoying the movie in the end, including me. Get out of your Sam Raimi bubble and accept the fact that Raimi’s movies are done and over with, and we now have a more faithful interpretation of the Spider-Man character. You don’t see it because you were probably one of those kids who thought that Tobey’s version is the most faithful and best one because he was the original. Because in that case, Adam West must be the best Batman…

Spider Man 2 is a classic. fall back

Actually, Raimi’s Spider-Man was and is the only visual medium to capture the true essence of Spider-Man. Webb is a hack who tried to turn Peter Parker into some cool, charismatic, athletic, dark loner. He ruined the entire tone of the film by shooting it all at night, trying to turn it into The Dark Knight Spider-Man. Spider-Man is the world’s most light, funny superhero, and Raimi nailed it perfectl.

Not to mention Tobey Maguire’s excellent portrayal of Parker/Spider-Man. He nailed the nerdiness, the awkwardness, the charm, the humour, and the attitude of both characters in a brilliant and sympathetic performance. I like Andrew Garfield, but his Spider-Man was way off.

The Amazing Spider-Man was cliched, inaccurate, too dark, and too commercialized. This movie looks even worse. Who the hell cast Paul Giamatti?

      • Agent777

“Well that’s like, you opinion man.” – The Dude…
Incidentally has Marc Webb ever worked with the Cohen Bros.? No, yeah that’s right, he works with the studio…

So is the Rhino gonna have a skin or just a big robot exo suit ?

    • eternalozzie

He won’t be a power ranger like the raimi-goblin I hope … there are CGI trackers on his face and hands … I bet he will look Rhino like in the end.

      • Gögi Gonzales

Those aren’t motion trackers, they’re Russian prison tattoos. Thanks though.

      • Nerdgasm

There are pictures of him out there in a foam suit and tracks running across his face and hands. Dont be dick Gogi speedy fucking gonzales. He was probably just referencing the other pictures.

      • Gögi Gonzales

There actually aren’t. There are, however, pictures of him wearing what looks like a set of grey shoulder pads while out on location. Problem is, the markers on the foam STILL aren’t for mo-cap. As for markers on his face…I’ve still only seen shitty Russian prison tattoos. Also…if he’s playing the rhino( a character whose face is visible) why would he have motion capture grids on his face? You’re showing what a terrible “nerd” you are. Nice try though, dude.

      • Gögi Gonzales

but before you get your nerd panties in a bunch, heres this…

heres what bad facial tattoo makeup looks like.

      • Strong Enough

I think you’re the one getting your panties in a bunch Gogi. No one really cares. The pads the running tracks. It’s for CGI. It seems like cause if i recall correctly he’s wearing his Russian atire while inside the “Rig” of gray shoulder pads that his face most likely will be covered but a cockpit or something. everything towers over him so they are going more the Ultimate route than the original route… so chances are you are wrong again and his face won’t be shown unless it’s a la “Iron Monger esque” When the suit opens to reveal him inside. In fact that get up he’s wearing it very similar to the one The Dude wore for Iron Man one. But again… notice how noo one has commented on your shit. it’s not cause you’re right it’s cause that guy trolled you and you took the bait like a dumbass. CHRISTOPHER NOLAN RULES!

      • Gögi Gonzales

As long as we can all agree that he doesn’t have motion capture marks on his face or hands, and that they are “Russian prison tattoos”…

      • ElectroWillRock

        Not funny. unoriginal. go away.

      • Gögi Gonzales

you mean as unoriginal as a sequel to a crappy reboot? so far, every thing about this movie looks like shit. but you probably saw daredevil so…

      • sholaye

        why you here then?

In all honesty, Spider-Man better have a parter or two when fighting the Sinister 6. On film, I don’t think he can do it himself…I mean to show Spider-Man struggle to beat one or two villains each film then in the end he goes against them all?!?! It just will not work on film. He needs like Black Cat and someone else maybe.

  • Django9000

That’s totally Avi Arad sitting beneath the 6 . Looks like more of a ‘Studio Lot 6′ sign, that may’ve been photoshopped afterward or stenciled humorously to tease, knowing this would end up online.

Good on ‘im. He’s messin’ with us, by proving he’s a fan too. hahaha

Peter – Harry, what’s with the camera?
Harry – I’m filming everything from now on.

SLOW NEWS DAY???? ALL OF THESE IMAGES HAVE BEEN RELEASED A LONG TIME AGO!!!!

And they are not even as interesting as images more recent.

showing Electro with his face hidden after we have seen his whole body has little to NO suspense….so that hoodie pic is out.

Stan lee is great for creating this but his face is not a news worthy new image.

nor is avi arad sitting in a fold out chair.

    COME ONE CLICK SCAMS!!!!! *rage*

This may come as a shocker to those so concerned with the pressing issue of whether or nor a superhero movie is fine art, but your personal opinion of any of the Spider-man movies doesn’t make any of them either good or bad.

    • Kevin

      Shocker confirmed.

I just love the way that synopsis is written. If it’s “one promise he just can’t keep”, why in the bloody hell is it so worth remembering? lol If anything it’s just a further insult to the memory of Gwen’s father. The ONE thing he asked Peter to do, it was so crucial he spoke it in his last moments, that Pete’s just gonna ignore :p

    • omar

but in the first Spider-Man film, Peter promises that he will be Spider-Man and wont be MJs boyfriend and in the second film he gives up being Spider-Man because he cant be with her, so stop complaining about the promise that Peter broke in TASM
