Casting is currently underway on Sonyâs fast-moving sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and it appears that producers are changing course in filling the integral role of Harry Osborn. Marc Webb is returning to direct with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone back as the filmâs leads, but the follow-up is poised to include a tantalizing group of newcomers that should ring familiar to fans of the comics. Shailene Woodley is set to play eventual love interest Mary Jane in what may amount to a larger role in the third film, and negotiations are underway to nail down Jamie Foxx as the filmâs villain Electro. We recently heard that Dane DeHaan (Chronicle), Alden Ehrenreich (Beautiful Creatures) and Brady Corbet (Melancholia) were under consideration for the role of Harry Obsorn, but now it appears that Sony is looking for a different type of actor to take on the part. Hit the jump for more. For those unfamiliar with the source material (or Sam Raimiâs previous film trilogy), Harry Osborn is a close friend to Peter Parker who turns villainous much later down the road.  Per Heat Vision, the producers and filmmakers are testing a new group of hopefuls, as theyâre now looking at actors âwith characteristics that include athleticism and good looksâ for the role of Harry Osborn.  A tad harsh, no?The actors now testing for the part include Sam Claflin (Snow White and the Huntsman), Eddie Redmayne (My Week With Marilyn, Les Miserables), Douglas Booth (LOL, Noah), and Boyd Holbrook (Hatfields & McCoys, The Host). Claflin is the best known of the bunch, but I find it curious that heâs in line for the high profile part as he recently landed the coveted role of Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Iâm still pulling for DeHaan to win out in the end, though I wouldnât be upset with Claflin or Redmayne in the role either. As production is slated to begin early next year, we should hear a decision regarding the Osborn role sooner rather than later. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to open on May 2, 2014.
