The future of the Amazing Spider-Man franchise probably lies with the Sinister Six.  As we've said before, Sony doesn't have any other superheroes, but they have plenty of supervillains, and teaming them together can set Amazing Spider-Man apart from other comic book movies.  As far as we know, Electro (Jamie Foxx) will be the main villain in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but we also know Chris Cooper is playing Norman Osborn, who in the comics eventually becomes Spidey's arch-nemesis, Green Goblin.  In a recent interview with MTV, Cooper says The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be our introduction to the rebooted Osborn, but,

"you'll see — an extremely odd introduction, which apparently will lead to something more."

Hit the jump for Cooper's other statement regarding the upcoming sequel.  The film also stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Dane DeHaan, Paul Giamatti, Felicity Jones, B.J. NovakColm Feore, and Sally FieldThe Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in 3D on May 2, 2014.

Cooper also told MTV,

"They sent me some material," he said, adding, "But they said also that this Spider-Man is its own Spider-Man. We're just kind of starting from the beginning."

That's right, kids: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is a reboot of a reboot.  Perhaps a more accurate description is that the sequel is a much-needed adjustment.  The first movie was too gritty but also too silly (lizard gas) and mostly a mess when it came to the story.  A redesigned costume and the humor we saw in the Comic-Con trailer are encouraging signs for the upcoming film.

As for Cooper's comments, I hope his odd introduction involves a maniacal laugh.
