We have seen many images from the The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but prior to the release of the trailer, the true reveal should come at the Comic-Con panel in Hall H on Friday.  Sony has released a tease for the panel with our first official footage of Jamie Foxx hooked up to the machinery that presumably transforms him into the villain Electro.  I haven’t set expectations for the sequel yet, but I do like the look they designed for Electro.

Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Dane DeHaan, Paul GiamattiFelicity JonesChris Cooper, and Sally Field also star.  The Marc Webb-directed sequel opens May 2, 2014.  See the teaser after the jump, and check back on Friday for our recap of the Comic-Con panel.

Official synopsis:

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

That picture cracks me up every time I see it. It looks like he’s in the middle of letting out a massive fart he’s been trying to hold in.

Anybody else wonder what Christopher Nolan would do with a Spider-Man movie? I think everybody would go watch that, because we’d all know it would be an interesting and fresh take on the character!

    • spongefist

He would make it a big load of intellectual, over conceived, pseudo-intellectual boring crap like the rest of his movies (with the lucky streak of BB and TKR being the exception).

Although, being that The Amazing Spiderman was so incredibly bad I’m not sure which would have been worse.

      • JohnnyBlaze

Obviously Joss Whedon and Kenneth Branagh are aiming towards the pace for you, the lowest common denominator.

      • Agent777

So he would make something I could actual watch more than once? Know much about Stan Lee? You know, comic book writer, loaded his comics with intellectual, over conceived, presudo-intellectual stuff? Jack Kirby? Steve Ditko? Each one loaded there work with intellectual, over conceived, presudo-intellectual ideas… THAT’S WHY IT’S GOOD! That’s why they have longevity.
Stupid is only entertaining for so long…

    • HydrogenChaos

I know he would create a better explanation of how the web shooters would work in the real world.

Nolan is a God we all know that, I would blow him just to see what kind of Spiderman movie he would make. I’m a dude.

    • Agent777

Nolan would nail it. As someone who has read all of Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, and John Romita’s run on the series, he would nail it. Peter Jackson could do it. Del Toro could do it. Shoot David Yates could do a good job. Marc Webb’s done one film prior to doing Spider-Man… and anyone who has seen enough films would know he’s borderline a hack.

If you doubt that, consider Sony dropped a real director in favor of one they could control.

Damn, can’t get through one flippin’ superhero post without someone raising Christopher Nolan’s name. Worse than Jesus freaks commenting in a science website.

MARVEL IS DOING GREAT, BUT IRON MAN 3 DID HAVE SOME MISTAKES, BUT IGNORING THAT IT IS A GREAT FILM!

    • Daniel O’Reilly

Kind of hard to ignore Iron Man’s most powerful villain being turned into a puppet.

      • DoctorPotterHolmes007

True, but than Aldrich called himself the Mandarin…. And all the other mistakes, I just found a solution for them myself!

    • Agent777

The proper reaction to Iron Man 3 is to forget it, or, when your with your friends you saw it with, use it for short hand for a really crappy film, “I saw that movie, it was another Iron Man 3.”

But seriously the Iron Man 3 apologist are just two funny, given how Spider-Man 3 was totally lynched by the “fan boy” community, yet compared to Iron Man 3… Really now, sometimes you just need to forget a crappy film and let it die, not make excuses for it because Iron Man happens to be in it.

He’s more difficult to understand than Bane ever was!

    • Merlin235

I wouldn’t take it that far, but I agree, I had to listen to it a few times before I understood everything he was saying. Before they fixed Bane, I couldn’t understand anything he said no matter how many times I listened to it.

A reboot of a reboot. Bad days. Will someone please create a new character for our times instead of rehashing and rebooting what’s already been done? Thanks.

    • DeadMenTellNewTales

They’ve never done Electro and Rhino before. It’s still Spider-Man, but at least the villains are new. And if the rumors are true we might see Black Cat for the first time on screen. That all seems new enough…

  • Bob

His voice sounds good. Still undecided on how he looks. Will need to see an actual trailer/the movie to really know.

    • I Fucked a Jawa

I agree. I’m sure the CG will make all his powers look good, but I’m still getting a Joel Schumacher Mister Freeze vibe from the makeup.

I thought he was going to say “I’m Keanu Reeves!” at the end there…

  • Merlin235

So far I haven’t seen anything that makes me excited about Electro in this film. I’m hoping some effects shots will change that, but every promo they release of Electro contains a warped facial expression, like he’s in the middle of an enema or something. I’m hoping that’s indicative of poor marketing efforts, rather than how he’s going to look in the movie.

    • http://mattedscreen.blogspot.com/ TheMattedScreen

haha! He does make a lot of poop faces, the angry poop, the stressful poop, the satisfying poop… and he’s blue so he looks like a giant incontinent Smurf!

      • Agent777

Loki is the proof that just sticking to the character as written and drawn, yields the best results.

      • nono

Yeah I like how they did that with Hawkeye too. OH WAIT. They totally didn’t. And it was fine.

    • Agent777

Electro is such a fun, cocky bastard. Electro looks like Dennis Leary, so it makes that awful casting from the worst one ultra stupid, as Leary would have been perfect for Electro. I can’t stand the man but he has always been my choice for Electro.

From what I’ve seen, it’s gonna be another “I’m a sad guy, oh I have powers, I’m going to be bad, oh never mind I was good all along” type thing, that works for Sandman, but not Electro.
The Prowler is an extremely underrated Spider-Man character, popular enough, yet low key enough you could alter the character with out pissing to many people off. He is black, sympathetic, and a great Spider-Man ally. Jaime Foxx should of played that character. Now the actor and character are just going to be wasted like so many burnt out light bulbs.

  • snoop3

It be nice if they created a villain you could understand , oh yeah they did that in Avengers !

  • Dan

He kinda sounds like Rorschach. Not that I’m complaining.

  • whiskey_river1

(In my opinion) it looks like garbage. (In my opinion) he is Mister Freeze bad.

  • Th Hobbit

Why Are all The Villains In Spider-man Movies a Result Of Scientific Experiment?? Or May i Say Failed Scientific Experiments..

    • Agent777

It’s easy to film. Green Goblin, Lizard and Doc Ock are scientist, and were victims. Electro was a power lineman and Sandman was a convict who were victims of freak accidents. But Peter is into science, so alot of this is symbolic for Goblin, Ock and Lizard being parallels to Spidey.

Just like most of Batman’s villains are obsessed with certain manias similar to Batman’s himself.

But in the films it easier (but not as good) to just have everyone blunder into some science experiment.

  • Smelly fish fingers

Does no one else see a resemblance to arnie as mr freeze….the voice is similar to…..’tonight there wil beee a frueeezzeee”

  • Strong Enough

sounds good so far. too many villians though
