Sony Pictures has released a final theatrical trailer for director Marc Webb‘s upcoming sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2.  The follow-up finds Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) surrounded by antagonistic forces as Electro (Jamie Foxx) emerges, Parker’s old friend Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan) returns to New York City, and everyone seems to have a connection to the shady goings-on at Oscorp.  This trailer would probably be a bit more exciting if Sony hadn’t previously released an overwhelming amount of trailers, clips, and images (keep in mind that the movie is still six weeks away), but there’s still plenty of action and a heavier emphasis on Harry Osborne/Green Goblin even though Electro is the main villain.  The movie looks good; I just wish the studio hadn’t already shown us so much of it.

Hit the jump to watch the new trailer.  The film also stars Emma StonePaul GiamattiSally FieldChris Cooper, B.J. Novak, and Felicity Jones.  The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on May 2nd.

Via Sony Pictures.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Amazing Spider-Man 2:

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: Oscorp.

Another obligatory fan boy rant about how much rage I have toward this movie. Throw in something about Raimi being awesome and Maguire being better.
Also Goblin looks stupid and Sony has shown the whole movie.
( Seriously, internet, find something else to bitch about.)

    • Lee Harvey Cobblepot

I think this looks sweet. I thought the first film was… OK. Not great, it didn’t suck. Just… an OK Spider-Man movie. And Raimi’s pider-Man 3 SUCKED so he wasn’t infallible either. I’m ready for this, I think it’ll be cool.

      • Marco Lara

Raimi was not entirely responsible for Spiderman 3′s suckage, the lovely studio heads that bring you this ASM crap were…. This is NOT the Green Goblin or the Rhino fans have waited to see!

      • Grayden

Fans don’t know what they want. Veer too close to original material and you’re a coattail-riding hack incapable of original ideas. Veer too far away and your direction is nothing reminiscent of the original; no soul, no heart.

Fans cannot be satisfied either way. It’s hilarious when they all bitch about films that weren’t perfect enough for them.

      • Marco Lara

Not necissarily true, sure there are obnoxious purists, but there is a clear difference between fan nitpicking and an inability by producers and directors to stick to the core material that makes the comics great….

      • Lee Harvey Cobblepot

I always got the impression he was forced to include Venom in the film by Avi Arad. but I don’t know what exactly went on.

      • Frank

Hell Spider-Man 3 was better than Amazing Spider-Man, at least it wasn’t boring.

      • eternalozzie

        (facepalm)

      • Frank

Oh I’m sorry, did I say some differing opinion that upset you enough.

    • The Flobbit

Obligatory rant on how bitching is what we do best. Obligatory rant on how this movie is a POS.

    • André Camilo

Man, stop commenting that on every TASM 2 article in here. You’re coming out as a bigger troll than the actual trolls.

    • Jones

If you think the whole internet is “bitching” about this movie, then go read the comments on some of the other sites, or Youtube.. Many people are really excited about this movie and are calling it the superhero movie of the year :)

      • Spanky

Then their mommies changed their pull-ups

        I’m a big boy now!

      • Jones

        Say what? o.O
And if you want to know my opinion, i think it looks terrible, and i am not going to watch it. Even i could write that movie and all the lines, and i am terrible at that stuff.. it looks really dumb. But not everyone thinks that, because Spiderman is Spiderman, and he will always be cool enough to watch..

      • Hueyhueyhuey

        ZING!

      • The_Smirking_Revenge

Many people are mindless idiots who wouldn’t know a good movie if it crapped on their chest… What’s your point? Of course there are people who think this looks great. There are still people who defend the Prequel Trilogy. Doesn’t mean they’re right or better than the people who are bitching. At least the people bitching aren’t just willing to swallow whatever bullshit is put in front of them while being told it’s something else.

      • Frank

Ah Smirking Revenge, really great to shit all on every regular person below you. Are you smarter than those mindless idiots? Honestly, you lost me at that first sentence, you just insulted much of the human race and made yourself look like a hateful jackass with no clue about people’s intelligence levels.

  • The Flobbit

His greatest battle begins…to remain a good movie in the face of Marc “Discount Chris Nolan” Webb, and Andrew “Angsty” Garfield.

    • Diego Fernando Salazar Proaño

I LOL’d at the “Discount Chris Nolan” part (you watch a lot of Cinema Sins don’t you? ) but wouldn’t say Andrew “Angsty” Garfield… actually Maguire was more “angsty” (angstyER?): he cried during half the movie for THREE movies after all

      • The_Smirking_Revenge

Crying isn’t “angsty”… And Toby didn’t come off like a complete douche with no respect for the role he’d chosen.

      • Diego Fernando Salazar Proaño

I assume by your comment that you imply that Garfield acts like a douche with no respect for the role? What makes you think that?

On the other hand, yes, crying isn’t “angsty”, my bad. It’s a symptom. But no, in Maguire’s case, is being a baby.

PS: I’m not blaming Maguire on this, he is a fine actor and did what he had to with what he was given.

Also, I’m not even blaming Raimi on this: he said repeatedly that he was putting on screen the Spider-Man he grew up with, the 60′s and 70′s Spidey (haven’t read much of them) and he stayed faithful to that. But, is that the actual portrait of a teenager now? I can say that, being a teenager in the 90′s and early 2000′s that I can relate closer to Garfield’s Spidey than Maguire’s

      • Frank

So a teenager in the 90s/2000 doesn’t help a robbed Convience store clerk because he was a jerk to you for not having exact change. Right, I hope all teenagers aren’t like that. Furthermore, did you act emotionally distant from your family members and yell at your mom or aunt. Go to school act like you’re James Dean and a rebel or somethiing while wearing your hoodie and sleeping in class. I doubt it. Unless you were a punk in High School or some kind of wannabe tough guy.

      • Diego Fernando Salazar Proaño

As much as a 60s/70s teenager doesn’t help a gun-point robbed wrestling manager because he was a jerk to him for not paying him. Look, I could point to all the differences between those two situations but I won’t simply because I really can’t see what are you going to with your comment.

      • Frank

Actually I could understand not paying him better than exact change considering I wouldn’t let a guy get robbed over 2 cents.

My comment is I hope you weren’t a social outcast, punk psycho who acted like James Dean hipster Rebel without a cause.

      • Diego Fernando Salazar Proaño

Well, now we are talking. No I wasn’t a Rebel without a cause nor a punk psycho but I was (am?) a social outcast of sorts. Still I don’t think Garfield’s was more emotionally distant that Maguire’s and yes, he didn’t yell him (yelling is relatively recent) but still made uncle Ben feel like crap. The situation was different, Ben yelled first, Peter yelled in response (still not OK).

I see another difference in the situation: yes, not paying him is worse that make you look like a wimp but in the Convenience store he got robbed without violence so you can be like “hey, you got it coming a*hole”. Not stopping an armed robbery, in my eyes, is kinda worse. Actually I think that the cop in the first movie could have easily arrested Peter as an accomplice.

Anyway, the point I was trying to get was that I think you can’t say Raimi’s Spidey is better because Webb’s is “angsty” because both were. And also, the douche Smirking was refering to, if I’m not wrong, was Garfield as a real person which I can’t see why he says that. That Garfield’s Peter acted like a douche letting a guy get robbed out of 2 cents is out of the question and that’s why Ben’s death changes him: because he died thanks to him being a douche

      • Frank

No, Uncle Ben’s death turned him into Bruce Wayne from Batman Begins or The Punisher. He’s nearly killing every Car Jacker in New York, no wonder the Police started getting on him. He’s nearly killing every car jacker he comes across. Or did we forget him practically torturing that one Car Jacker guy.

      • Diego Fernando Salazar Proaño

And exactly what did he do in Raimi’s Spider-Man? He actually killed the guy!

      • Frank

He didn’t kill the guy.he disarmed him and he fell out a window on accident. Did you even watch the movie?

      • Diego Fernando Salazar Proaño

Of course I did! More times than I can be comfortable saying but all of them a long time ago. But yes, you are right, I recall now, he didn’t kill him (still, he broke his hand) but I’m trying to make a point here: everything people is complaining about the new Spidey is already done in the Raimi’s version.

      • Frank

He never even caught the guy in ASM.

      • Diego Fernando Salazar Proaño

Did people really complain about that?

      • Frank

I’m not complaining I’m just saying it’s different there. I mean Raimi he actually caught the guy, and yes he died accidentally. ASM had him threatening random car jackers and nearly killing them until he found out they weren’t the guy.

      • Diego Fernando Salazar Proaño

        Oh, ok, mix up there.

      • Hueyhueyhuey

        This ^^

      • Frank

That’s right this right at Me. You unintentionally made yourself in support of me. Thanks. But I said why I praise Michael Bay, he directs better action than Webb hell he directs better movies. The Rock is a classic movie, watch it some time. This is just my opinion.

      • Hueyhueyhuey

This was right at you for a reason Frank. You covered anything and everything I intended to ;)

      • Frank

Ah, what did you intend to cover?

      • eternalozzie

You are really out of touch with younger people … possibly humans in general. We need to teach more psychology in grade school.

      • Frank

Out of touch with younger people, who says I was ever in touch with what younger people like. In High School, which wasn’t very long ago for me, say I graduated can’t remember again 2011. I was a social outcast and a misfit who hanged out with the computer guys. Not someone who was in touch with younger people my own age. As for human beings. I understand enough, some of them are nice, friendly people and others are hateful, cruel bastards like you and yet again also there’s the third which is just stupid.

      • eternalozzie

I am sorry. It was not my intent to be cruel or hateful.

      • Frank

Yes you are, hateful and cruel.

      • eternalozzie

going forward I will try to be only slightly cynical and moderately annoying …. that’s the best I can do. :)

      • Frank

You’d still be majorly annoying and cynical.

At least it hasn’t got Kirstin (Screamy) Dunst in these movies…

    • Jack le Critic

      I miss screamy, miserable Dunst.

      • Kevin Carter

        I’m sorry..

    • Frank

No it has strange, jerky, aloof Andrew Garfield.

    • Diego Fernando Salazar Proaño

And there, my friend, is how you waste a decent actress.

      • Frank

I don’t know I don’t remember Kirsten Dunst being that great of an actress anyway, she did the role pretty well though.

  • doctor_robot

looks good to me. i’ll be there.

  • RecoveR

I don’t understand why people didn’t like the first Amazing Spiderman movie, Andrew Garfield is a better Peter Parker AND a better Spiderman, it actually “feels” like a spiderman comic. This movie actually looks pretty good, i’m definitely going to watch it, i’m excited for it. I’m going to wait till i see the movie to pass judgement. I just hope when i watch the movie the whole film isn’t in the trailers, cause it takes you out when you notice bits from the trailer.

EDIT: Also the only bad looking thing about this movie are its posters, damn that looks like the front of a child’s “Amazing Spider-man 2 sticker book”

    • Christian Leroux

If you went into TASM with really low expectations, then it’s a decent movie. That being said though, it’s not great by any standards, but that’s not an issue as making an origin story work well is extremely difficult.

This movie though looks fucking insanely good. I love how some people are bashing the CG look when this is a comic-book movie. I feel like all of the vibrant colors and VFX make it look like something that came fresh off pulp.

      • The_Smirking_Revenge

Being a comic book movie is not an excuse to have shitty CG… If this was the year 2000, then ok, but it’s not. This is a big budget Hollywood blockbuster. So step up the quality.

      • Marco Lara

Batman and Robin had lots of vibrant colors and VFX……

      • Frank

Actually that was an even better movie than Amazingg Spider-Man, not joking, I would take lame ice puns over angsty hipster Andrew Garfield.

      • Kevin Carter

        No, just no.

      • Frank

What? At least it’s horriblness isn’t boring. That movie runs only 2 hours as opposed to the near 2 hr and 20 minute ASM.

      • Kevin Carter

Some would argue it was 2 hours too long :)

      • Frank

Still a lot more enjoyable than ASM.

      • Kevin Carter

As long as you enjoyed it

      • Kevin Carter

As long as you enjoyed it

      • Frank

I didn’t even need Spider-Man’s orgin story again. He could’ve been just Spider-Man at the beginning, did Webb learn nothing from the Incredible Hulk?

    • Tod

The people who don’t like the reboot are the people who have seen the originals.

They should have NOT shown the origin again. They did it worse, they made Uncle Ben’s death worse, etc. And the movie is strangely inert, lifeless and unengaging. It’s just stuff happening. Like a Resident Evil sequel. There’s nothing that genuinely grabs you. There’s no momentum or involvement.

Great cast, lazy meh of a movie.

    • Frank

Which Spider-Man does this feel like, Ultimate Spider-Man? Not the Spider-Man I read of during my childhood.

      • RecoveR

I mean the character, Andrew Garfield feels alot more like the character of spider-man than Tobey Maguire did. also Garfield actually looks like peter parker should, i can’t imagine anyone would’ve thought of maguire before the raimi movies. I also don’t see how Raimi’s movies would work in today’s world, they were far too campy, but they could get away with it when you’re like 12 years old.

      • Frank

Um, which Spider-Man are you reading? Now I admit he didn’t look like Tobey but on the other hand he sure as hell doesn’t look like Andrew Garfield. Or act like Andrew Garfield unless you mean Ultimate Spider-Man. Where yes he totally acts like Andrew Garfield and looks like him too. Actually Andrew Garfield looks like Anthony Perkins so I expect him to dress up in drag and stab emma stone in the shower in the next movie.

Raimi’s movies worked, sorry. Hey you know what how do you make serious movies off of being given spider power. I have high doubts that Raimi’s version will be not overshadowed by Webbs. Thank you I watched these movies past 12 by the way.

Today’s world well Today’s World wasn’t much different than 2002. You mean in a post-Nolan world, I guess. Curse that man for sucking joy out of superheroes.

There’s no joy out of this Spider-Man, he doesn’t even get an epic showing his powers scene. Raimi had that down well. Willem Dafoe, owns it as the bad guy a lot more than Rhys Ifans who I don’t remember from anything great..

can they just release it and be done with it, i can’t take any more

    • Ridge

      I totally agree with you

    • Hueyhueyhuey

It’s out, just re-arrange the 3 hours of footage released and you have the full movie!

  • Drake

Okay, that looks epic. They’ve given away too much, yes. But it still looks very good, in my book. I mean, what else do you want from your Spider-Man movie? Another soap opera with MJ?

  • Steven

Its not even out for another month and I’m already sick of this steaming pile of poo.

    Ughh.

  • derek

Its like they think they are being clever by showing the whole movie except anything about the Rhino character. Like we are going to be surprised when we see the film. If they were to have just released this trailer, i would be pretty excited to see it. Good trailer. The only thing i like about these new spiderman movies is action seems different and its less soap opera.

  • Faptain America

Best trailer so far. If only it had been the only one. Focuses on Spider-Man rather than the villains, but teases them all.

I have hopes this will be good but Im very happy this is the last trailer,we were one or two from seeing the whole movie.

Sorry nerd boys, but this will be waaay better than any of the other Spiderman films….1st film was great, better than the Raimi films.

    • Jack le Critic

Thanks Mr. Garfield, but you’re wrong.

    • Frank

I’m not even a nerd and I liked Raimi’s movies better than this jerky, asshat Peter Parker who looks like Edward off of Twilight mixed with Anthony Perkins from Psycho.

      • http://mattedscreen.blogspot.com/ TheMattedScreen

“Edward off of Twilight mixed with Anthony Perkins from Psycho.” is pretty much the perfect description.

      • Frank

And hell I’ll give this to Twilight, Edward wasn’t a total freaking douche. He may have stalked like a weirdo and was totally montone and in a creepy relationship but he wasn’t a total jerky douche. God I actually could watch Twilight more than this, I actually had some hilarious fun laughing at Twilight.

Time for a moritorium on that horrible cliché “What do I love about X?…everything”. It’s almost as bad as “Are you afraid? No…I’m terrified” (or the variations like “Do you like X? No…I love it!”).

  • mattritchey

Y’know, if this had been the only trailer, I’d just have throughout that they improved on the first one. THIS movie looks pretty okay, actually. Maybe it’s because my expectations are so low, but I’d actually consider seeing this. I AM upset that they got rid of Michael Masse just so they could get a “name” in the role of Osbourne, but hey, whatev.

  • Colin Christian

Garfield is a perfect looking Spidey. But that’s about it.It would have been cool to see The Rhino in a thick polymer hide suit, something organic, instead of the Dinobot. But that’s the problem, the whole thing, they swapped organic for tech (Goblin too) and end up with this. And of course,Fantastic Four, you can imagine…..maybe Ben Grimm will be a Transformer too.

lol … Frank has over 20 comments in this thread … we understand you don’t like this series of Spidey

  • Frank

Oh let’s see, Spider-man is a really great property with potential, Transformers, it’s giant robots blowing each other up and giving out one liners. It did that, I liked it, had no problem with it. It’s actors had a fun time with the material and I like that as opposed to these sorry poor actors who had to deal with this boring crap. I know he’s portraying the Ultimate Universe, or as I call it the sucky Universe or Whine univere. I never liked Ultimate Universe, too much stupidity, Spider-Man whines and acts like a scared douche. Wolverine is easily killed by magneto. It’s very lame.

You’re comparing Spider-Man which was a comic book series that had a really great mythos to Transformers, a dorky cartoon series made to sell a toy line. Who’s mythos isn’t very good. Plus let’s see here, Michael Bay directed The Rock a really classic and great action movie and what did Marc Webb direct? Nothing, that’s right a Hipster comedy , I never saw it and really I consider it nothing.

Michael Bay has made two movies in the Criterion Collection and is at least well known if despised by critics. Armageddon still gets shown on TV constantly and the main theme song from Aerosmith is still heard. Hell Pearl Harbor has been kept alive as well. Michael Bay, I have no problem with. He’s not even a problem to me,

Hell he makes ballsy remakes that don’t hold on the graphic content. see that Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a whole superior movie than that recent Lionsgate travesty that tried to make Leatherface into some misunderstood anti-hero.

A Friday the 13th sequel/Remake that actually went back to the camp, had gore in it, wasn’t wimpy.

Yeah Nightmare on Elm Street and The Hitcher are marks against.

  • Frank

Ah man, you really are a delusional fruitcake.

  • Frank

I never said he was a classic, I said the Rock was a classic. I never said Bay is a classic director. He doesn’t have to be. He’s merely a director who likes to do fun, escapist action movies, he’s shallow because he doesn’t kiss up to the critics of the world, he didn’t say oh I’ll try better Roger Ebert, no he bit back. And no just the fact AMC airs it on it’s channel constantly tells you he’ll never go away. I couldn’t stand 500 days of summer. Thank you very much, it wasn’t that good, then again I hate Rom-coms anyway. As a genre there one of the worst and most insufferable tripe I’ve ever had to sit through, and Diablo Cody didn’t help anything with Juno.

The fact he really doesn’t care what people think about his movies is a mark of a great filmmaker, you know who also didn’t care about that kind of stuff, a lot of directors. I’m reminded of the Day of the Dead commentary where George A Romero and Tom Savini talked about the negative reviews that movie got and Savini basically said and I quote ” Who cares about what they say?” and then went on with the commentary. Romero basically agreed with him as did the main actress. So if Bay is a shallow director who doesn’t apologize for people not liking his movies, then he’s really no different than any other filmmaker out there. They don’t care.
