The first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 just went online, and it’s pretty damn good.  It’s filled with some thrilling shots and some neat stuff for the fans.  For me, the biggest takeaway from the trailer is the image above—Vulture’s wings and Doctor Octopus’ tentacles.  It’s a short shot, but one that’s meant to be noticed (unlike another half-second shot in the trailer that provides new details on what happened to Peter’s parents).  We’ve also pulled some nice close-ups on villains Electro (Jamie Foxx), Rhino (Paul Giamatti), and Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan).

Hit the jump to check out thirty screengrabs from the trailer, click here for more images and to preview the score, and click here to find out whether the post-credits scene was spoiled in the trailer.  The film also stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Chris Cooper, Felicity Jones, B.J. Novak, Colm Feore, and Sally FieldThe Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in 3D on May 2, 2014.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Amazing Spider-Man 2:

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

Looks like shit, excepts spidey’s custom, anyways everybody knows this movie sucks, shame for all that talented actors

    • celxx

Rating a movie before it comes out. The Avengers 2 also sucks!!!

      • Joey

May as well…Avengers 1 was as overrated as it gets. Man of Steel wipes it’s butt with Avengers…and I’m a much bigger Marvel fan than DC…and I’m not even a fan of Superman…but MoS killed it!

      • Let The Wookie Win

        Feed the trolls!

      • Brandon

Man of Steel was muff cabbage. Just awful.

      • Batt Damon

“I’m not even a fan of Superman”

That explains why you enjoyed Man of Steel

    • Gerard Kennelly
  • Davis

I take it norman is having a bad reaction to the ‘goblin gas’ instead of cancer? He’s looking kinda green aswell

  • El actor secundario Bob

    Meh.

  • doctor_robot

i have a good feeling about it.

    • The Flobbit

So do I, but I am really, really going to hold judgement on this. This could go to crap in ONE GODDAMN SECOND. I’m hoping it won’t, and that people won’t forget the quality of the Raimi films. Spider-Man 2 is still the greatest superhero film of all time.

      • Thomas K.

        Completely Agree.

      • Diego Fernando Salazar Proaño

Completely disagree: SM2 is an overrated film with some nifty action secuences but with a love story that looks taken from Smalville (which basically was a soap opera) or a Nicholas Sparks thing, a whiny, obnoxious main character and an unbelievably forced and cruel ending (I mean, come on, that Jameson dude was a nice guy, he deserved better)
That said, I loved the first one, this looks even better and that, at last, we’ll get some answers to what happened to Peter’s parents but, yes, this can go to crap in one second. But at least with the fact that the villains are related it can lead to something more cohesive than SM3.

      • The Flobbit

SM2 is an underrated film with electrifying action sequences, a touching and real love story, a relateable, every-man main character, and a great ending.

      • Diego Fernando Salazar Proaño

Well a matter of taste I guess but I really can’t identify with that Peter Parker no with that love story, I said why and I stand with my words. Honestly, I think there are several better superhero movies, including the first Raimi film and Amazing Spider-Man

      • JBug

        Tied with X2 for me.

      • The Flobbit

X2 gets third place, I believe, after Spider-Man 2, and The Dark Knight. Fourth would have to be X-Men: First Class, and then Captain America: The First Avenger.

      • The Flobbit

        1. Spider-Man 2
        2. The Dark Knight
        3. X2: X-Men United
        4. X-Men: First Class
        5. Captain America: The First Avenger

      • JBug

TDK goes in a different class for me a) because they take Batman out of the superhero genre and b) because it’s my #1 all timer. From there it goes:

        1./1A. SM2/X2
        3. First Class
        4/4A. Thor/IM3
        5. Avengers
        6. Spiderman
        7. Iron Man

      • The Flobbit

Woah, woah. Sorry to disagree with you, but Thor and IM3 DO NOT belong on the list. Thor 2 was far better than Thor. And Iron Man 1 beats them all.

      • Batt Damon

        1. Superman: The Movie
        2. Spider-Man 2
        3. The Avengers
        4. The Dark Knight
        5. X-Men 2

      • lordjim

1.Batman Returns (I´m serious, it´s damned entertaining, and really feels like a comic book, it´s the funniest and darkest of all the batman movies and i didn´t get it when it came out but now i have only love for this movie)
2.Batman Begins (always liked pupil fighting his master stories and what a cast, rutger hauer and tom wilkinson!emotionally the most involving of the nolan films)

3.X2 (when it comes to structure nobody beats this, pure bliss)

        4.X-Men:First Class (4, 5, 6 is great fun)

        5.Spiderman 2
        6.The Avengers

7.The Amazing Spiderman (great spidey but a bit of a tonal mess)
the dark knight – everybody loves it so i watched it four times to really give it a chance, but it´s like a big cold machine, every single piece is just serving the plot and doesn´t have a life in itself, it left me bored and uninvolved, the stuff they took out of “a killing joke” made no sense without the joker´s background, two-face was wasted, compared to non comicbook movies it´s not even close to gritty (watch heat if you want to know how that kind of movie is made with style), and batman doesn´t make sense in a realistic city, the joker was a weirdo punk with emo make-up i didn´t find intimidating at all, the gangsters where the real comicbook clowns, the batman wasn´t even a character, and rachel´s death was just an excuse for two-face to evolve – even that left me completely cold and i´m usually an oversensitive crybaby, so i really don´t get the love for it and prefer batman begins by a mile.

  • The Flobbit

Confirmed: Spider suit is awesome, Electro and Rhino suck, and the cast is great.

    • Batt Damon

The suit is the best thing about the movie

      • The Flobbit

        Agree.

    • Varun Hk

in Marvel Ultimate, Electro is blue in color, and Rhino is a mech suit in a few iterations. Your comment is irrelevant.

  • Niklsun

Dies Jamie foxx look bored or is it just me???

    • http://www.collider.com/ DNAsplitter

Telling Jamie Foxx to “dies” is racist. Correct yourself sir. But to answer your questions yes he does look bored.

      • jarule

The letter “i” is right next to “o” on a keyboard. It was obviously a typo of “Does”.

      • Arthur Dent

Noooo, really??? Are you sure about that?

  • Liderc

As much as I normally like Jamie Foxx, I wish he wasn’t in this movie. I think an unknown or a lesser known actor could have done so much more. I just can’t take him seriously as an evil guy with immense power.

The new suit sucks! Spider-man looks like a weird power ranger (as if power ranger is not weird enough).

    • Brandon

That’s the classic look from the comics. What are you smokin’?!

  • SomeGuy

What if Taran Killiam played Harry in a more “sassy” approach but with that same haircut?

  • Rockslide

Looks great to me, like a major step above the last one. I just hope they finally nail some of the humor that is so prevalent in the comics. (Although, I don’t really like the direction with the Rhino. I’d rather have a big CGI guy like the Hulk.)

  • Gerard Kennelly
  • Calmontoya

Harry (Dane Dehaan) looks just like Toby Maguire in SM 3 http://popbabble.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/tobey-maguire-spiderman-3-2.png That’s the same haircut right there…

  • NICK НΛRT

this is the most interesting screengrab in my opinion.. if you look at the screen that harry shows peter in the oscorp building, not only is there a file marked “venom storage” there are also files marked “dr. connors” “dr. morbius” “exoskeleton” and various other things i’m sure i’ll notice over time http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/fanwithaplan/news/?a=91043
