That Marc Webb is a clever one.  The filmmaker made good use of his Twitter during the lengthy shoot of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, sharing images from the set frequently in order to give fans a peek inside the production.  Now Webb has taken to Twitter to deliver a message about when we’ll see the first trailer for the Spidey sequel, and it’s in Elvish.  The English translation of Webb’s note reads “Watch for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer in front of The Hobbit in 3D.”  So there you have it folks, a trailer for Webb’s sequel will play before showings of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.  Hit the jump for more.

While Webb says the trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be attached to 3D showings, it’s tough to imagine the trailer not also playing in front of 2D The Hobbit showings.  Regardless, it’ll likely be online the same weekend anyway—if not before.  If you want an idea of what the trailer might entail, check out my recap of the footage that was shown this summer at Comic-Con and Steve's video interview with Webb.  And if you missed composer Hans Zimmer’s recent comments about the tone of the film, click here.  Directed by Webb, the film stars Andrew GarfieldEmma StoneJamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Paul Giamatti, Felicity JonesChris Cooper, and Sally Field.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in 2D and 3D on May 2, 2014, while The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug arrives in theaters December 13th in 2D, 3D, and HFR 3D.
