One of the challenges facing Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man is how to bring the film’s villain, The Lizard (played by Rhys Ifans), to life.  On the page, you can just see “Oh.  He’s like a tiny dinosaur wearing a lab coat.  How about that.”  On screen, however, that may look a little silly and I’m sure there have been plenty of make-up tests and various designs to find a convincing look that not only is scary and effective, but also allows for Ifans to emote.

The production has taken care to make sure that fans don’t get a look a character before it’s ready (which is why an official image of Spidey was released before the inevitable set photos).  So if you’re wondering why Rhys Ifans has a bag over his face in the image above [via Pink is the New Blog], that’s why.  The Amazing Spider-Man also stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.  It opens in 3D on July 3, 2012.

  1. They should do something that is ‘Gollum-esque’ in terms of CGI. It can be terrifying, dangerous and scary but at the same time can be emotional and sympathetic.

  2. But will Spider-Pig be in this? THAT is the question.

    Spider-Pig, Spider-Pig. / Does whatever a Spider-Pig does. / Can he swing / from a web? / No he *can’t*, / He’s a pig. / Look out! / He is the Spider-Pig!

  3. I’m pretty sure The Lizard is the easiest villain to translate to screen. He doesn’t wear spandex, and honestly is their can translate the Lord of the Rings and Two Face to screen you’d really have to try to mess him up.
He was my first action figure though so I hope they pull him off successfully.

  4. I was thinking they were green screening his face…? If not, then they should. Prosthetics are lame. All but the eyes; the eyes should be human.

  5. If you look at the closer pictures of his face on that blog. You can see some scale-esque make-up just above his eyes. Also, clearly his arms show skin. This will be more of a hybrid than the typical depicition.

  6. i personnally enjoyed stroking the shaft of my penis to this i creamedin my britches!!!!!!!

  7. Oh man. Is it really going to be facial makeup and maybe those “snake eyes” contacts people wear during Halloween?

Seems like you really need to go full CGI/mo-cap here or otherwise you’ve got something pretty lame. I mean, imagine him hissing in makeup. People will laugh.

  8. Thank you for the good writeup. It in reality was a entertainment account it. Look advanced to more added agreeable from you! However, how could we communicate?

  9. I cherished as much as you will receive carried out proper here. The cartoon is attractive, your authored material stylish. nevertheless, you command get bought an impatience over that you wish be handing over the following. unwell no doubt come further beforehand once more as precisely the same nearly very incessantly within case you defend this hike.
