New Images from THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Highlight Emma Stone and Webshooters

     December 26, 2011

As the barrage of marketing materials from the 2012 movie season continues, we’ve got a couple of new images from Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man. We’ve seen a few of these images before and a couple are new, but all are high quality. The new images here really emphasize the teenage aspect of Webb’s take, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the (500) Days of Summer director handles the character-driven scenes. I was impressed with the chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in the footage we saw at Comic-Con, and I’m hoping that permeates throughout the film.

Hit the jump to check out the images, which also include a close look at the mechanical webshooters. The film also stars Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field. The Amazing Spider-Man opens in 3D July 3rd, 2012.

    Looking good

Emma Stone looks phenomenal as Gwen Stacy…alot better then her “The Help” co-star Bryce Dallas Howard anyway. As for the rest of the movie, I’m sure it will do fine but it still feels unnecessary IMO. I would have liked for Sam to have done a fourth one (even though his series was a tad bit cartoonish) but oh well…

Andrew looks incredible as Peter Parker … this movie can’t get here soon enough. Emma looks great as Gwen. Going to be cool seeing this comic come to life decently after all the attempts over the years.

She looks gorgeous, but dressed like that, she doesn’t look like someone who is in highschool

    how do i shot web

  • kendra

For a while, looking at that third picture, I thought andrew garfield was grabbing his crotch instead of a backpack. Just thought you all should know

that makes two of us :P

      • Rozz

So that’s what he was doing!

  • terry

Ok, so the filmmaker better make sure we don’t ask the inevitable question: Shouldn’t Pete be recharging his mofo-effing web shooters?

Damn, that last shot of Andrew Garfield in glasses looks absolutely spot on. It’s like a page out of Ultimate Spider-Man come to life. That should be his hairstyle rather than the Twilight hairdo he’s sporting IMO…and Emma Stone looks amazing as Gwen. She could not look more perfect. I’m so excited for this movie

    • Gygaxlgargus

Agreed. I don’t like the Edward Cullen look. I almost let it turn me off to the whole movie, but seeing the other actors and Garfield with at least a decent looking haircut like in the last picture made me want to see it again.

I’m sorry if I’m in the minority but I’ve always hated the whole web shooter thing. I’ve always felt that that if the spider’s bite gave him all of these abilities then why would’nt also give him the ability to spin his own webbing? Organic webbing just makes more sense. One of the few ideas I really liked from the Raimi films.

    • broski

Actually no, it doesn’t make any sense. Spiders don’t shoot web from their limbs, the spin web out of their asses.

The webshooters are fundamental to the character of Peter Parker. Him being able to craft such a brilliant mechanism is a great example of his genius. I also always dug the “goddamnit.” moments in the comics and the 90′s cartoon when he’d run out of web and have to improvise, it adds another layer of drama to the action and makes things interesting.

      • Jay

I agree with both of you. I however found it to get old seeing him always run out of webs. I do think they need to show off his genius. The past movies didnt do anything to show him being a genius besides calling him smart and having him know a couple things most people wouldnt

Always liked Raimi, but I never got Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker…didn’t look like the character, and while he is a good actor, he always irked me in the role…as did Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane. Raimi’s were good in spite of the casting for me, but if these are done well, I am thinking they will be much more in line with the comic book, which was my fav as a kid. Garfield is a great actor and looks like Peter Parker..he can pull of geek handsome, which is what Parker morphed into over the years, whereas Maguire just looked like a geek throughout each film.

Agree with the above comment about the webshooter, Spidey running out of web added alot to the stories. Looking forward to this one, I just hope it’s focudes on story and character, and not a CGI mess.
