New Teaser Poster for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN [Updated]

by     Posted 1 year, 192 days ago

In the swirl of all this Dark Knight Rises news, a new poster for The Amazing Spider-Man has popped up online. It’s been a while since we’ve seen anything from the pic, but it looks as though the marketing campaign may be gearing up in earnest (hopefully a new trailer isn’t too far behind). As for the poster, I really like it. It sets itself apart from the Sam Raimi trilogy quite nicely, and I enjoy how the spider logo comes into play. It sports that tagline “The Untold Story”, which is Sony’s way of saying “we’re doing the origin story again but it’s totally different.” I’m intrigued by Marc Webb as the director and I’m a big fan of the main cast, so I’m hoping this all comes together well.

Hit the jump to check out the poster. The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, and Martin Sheen. The Amazing Spider-Man opens in 3D on July 3rd, 2012. [We've updated the poster with the hi-res, un-watermarked version]

Here’s the hi-res version of the poster:

I agree. It’s a very good poster. Atmospheric, mysterious yet iconic, it captures a more melancholic tone that the filmmakers are obviously trying to achieve.

  • jack

and on that note, we cue the fanboy bitching

    • Jeremy

I will base my opinion of this film solely on this poster and on nothing else and all I can say is that is going to be the worst movie ever made.

      • terry

Damn Jeremy! Tell us how you really feel.LOL!
I to could care less for this movie.Emma and Andrew are already dating. Paaaaaaah leeeeeeese! Studio PR BS. The movie is going suck.

      • jazzy jace

I love how Dickwads like Terry Jeremy have dismissed the movie out of hand. Think you losers are epic fails…

  • spiderfan94

I agree Jeremy. This is going to be terrible!

  • spiderfan94

I agree Jeremy. This is going to be terrible! I mean, it’s clearly photoshopped and it’s probably not Andrew Garfield but instead his female stunt double.

    • News Hit

      “clearly photoshopped.”

Egads. So they didn’t shoot Garfield casting a giant spider shadow for real? Massive Fail!

Groan. Try thinking of a legitimate criticism next time.

    Marc Webber? Marc Webb!

  • tarek

Spiderman trapped in the web of Webb.

  • wtff

    “The Untold Story”
…..if you forget that a few years ago this EXACT story was just told, only slightly different.

    • ehhhh

a few years ago? Try 10 years ago. And origin or not, its clearly going to be a much different film than its predecessors.

  • spiderfan94

By the way, the poster doesn’t even make sense. There’s no way he could be casting a spider shaped shadow. This is just trying to copy the white brick Joker poster for TDK. This movie will be a total fail. Reboot the reboot.

    • ehhhh

Since when do film posters have to “make sense”?

    • Lele

There’s no way that some buildings can form the Batman symbol but hey. It’s still a Christopher Nolan movie, and it’s still a Batman movie, so everyone just knows is going to be awesome and everyone flips out with every new poster.
Same thing for this poster of Spider Man, for me at least it looks incredible.

    • John

It’s called “symbolism”. Look it up, you might learn something.

That being said, this poster doesn’t really do it for me. Fortunately I have total confidence that Mark Webb has a solid vision for this.

      • vxx

Pssssstttttt — John — spiderfan94 was being facetious.

  • JR

I think Webb is gonna do just fine with this movie. Giving the action scenes wont be like anything he’s done before ill give him the benefit of the doubt because I really enjoyed 500 days of summer.

  • Bastardo

Everything I hear about this movie sounds good, and I like the cast. This poster isn’t vert good, the concept is nice bur the spider shadow is really silly. Also the tagline is lame, sure it’s a different telling of the story but it’s still the same story altogether.

I agree with Adam. I hope Marc Webb make great job, the all cast is great.

  • Strong Enough

People really have mental problems on here

  • Alex–

I don’t even like Spiderman that much but Marc Webb directing this remains insulting.

  • LicoriceWhips

This movie looks horrible; and, that tag line is a total lie. I predict this movie will flop… hard. And we will all have a mean-spirited chuckle @ Sony’s demise.

    • Keep It Close

I agree that it is a pointless movie that deserves to flop. However, with general audiences as “name brand” driven as they are, I have a strong feeling that this movie will sadly break a few records in terms of box office (but definitely not in terms of critical reception).

      • james

So you’ve seen it and it’s terrible? If not, then you have no reason to say that it deserves to flop…

  • dude

THE UNTOLD STORY!!!! rubbish. This is going to be sooooooo bad.
    Tobey was the best spiderman.
    Untold origin story sheesh

  • wolverqueen

Looks like shit. From a distance, it looks like a 6 year old has drawn a hobbit going into Batman’s lair…. shit, shit, shit….
As for ‘The Untold Story’ line, more shit, shit, shit, shit.

  • theham

All you who keep saying that movie blows and keep whining about it just show that your no better than 6 six year old…the movie is 6 months away and you keep pissing on about is that fact its a reboot…..THIS IS THE REAL TRUE SPIDER MAN!!!!!!. the sam raini version were so far from the original comics….it was 100% pieces of shit especially the third one…..This movie is really going bring in bank because it actually shows the real peter parker as reclusive, quiet nerd actually becoming a real hero.

    • JR209

OMG!!!! I’m so sick and tired of people saying this is closer to the comics…thats not like the comics…it needs to be more like the comics. The amount of people who will see this movie who read the comics versus those who haven’t is a very small percentage. Give it up fanboys, hollywood has never and will never make something EXACTLY like the comics, and you know what I’m okay with that. The same goes for books. Look at the batman franchise, those are some great films. Harry Potter amazing as well. No one complained about Sam Raimi’s spiderman till the third one came out.

Even if a whole hearted fanboy got the chance to direct a spiderman movie he too would stray from the original material to make it unique and the way he sees it to be.

The poster looks great, just the right amount of tease and great design. Sets the possible tone for the film. I’m very excited. All of you are going to be there opening night so stop complaining.

  • Mr.Rich316

I’m sure this movie will be huge for about a month. Then the world will go Bat S**t crazy for the rest of the summer. It will only be a failure when compared to the box office take of TDKR.(IMO).

  • jdsmoothe

Awesome freakin’ poster man! Great job Sony! Unfortunately, the new Dark Knight Rises poster just made yours look like it was done by a little girl.

P.S. – If I were you (Sony), I would at least put a month or 2 between the release dates of The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises…seriously that’s the last movie you want to compete with in 2012…don’t even try it.

    • GodsSoldier3

I absolutely agree JD. Spiderman is a good super hero story but come on, there is NO way you can compare it with the gritty realism of TDK. Nolan knows what he’s doing and spidey should be very worried trying to contend with the undisputed. Don’t get me wrong, I’m looking forward to both..But honestly…Come On!

  • Scotty

well…I’m really Excited for it! I love both Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield as actors. I can’t wait to see how they will play these roles. Also I think I’m going to give the movie a chance and not say it’s absolutely horrible before I have even seen it, because well I haven’t seen it. (Cough cough hint hint) CAN’T WAIT! Cool poster too!
