Hi-Res Version of New THE AMAZING-SPIDER MAN Teaser Poster

by     Posted: December 13th, 2011 at 7:21 am

Last week, we showed you the new teaser poster for The Amazing Spider-Man.  Sony has now sent us a hi-res, un-watermarked version.  The reboot isn’t so much “The Untold Story” (Peter Parker doesn’t get bitten by a radioactive hobo) as much as “The Same Story with a New Twist”.  Director Marc Webb has promised a grittier, darker Spider-Man story, and judging from what was presented at Comic-Con, that take is basically, “With great power, comes great responsibility, but what would you do if you never had any power before?”  It’s a new way to come at the Spidey credo, and while I will always wonder what would’ve been with Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4, I’m willing to give Webb’s take a shot.

Hit the jump to check out the poster.  The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Sally Field, and Martin SheenThe Amazing Spider-Man opens in 3D on July 3, 2012.

Here’s the hi-res version of the poster:

The best thing for this franchise would be to sell it back to Marvel. I do not trust these guys to it right, especially when they decided to re-tell the origin story and make Spidey all “gritty.”. Are they trying to make him the Dark Knight? Blah.

    Raimi! where art thou ?

Raimi ruined the third movie. Spider-man 2 is one of my all-time favorites, but SM3 was terrible start to finish. Even if people say the studio intervened and pressured him to include venom, im sure he wasnt pressured into hiring topher grace, or making perter cry 3 times, or dance twice. They changed tobey’s hair and made him wear eye liner to signify he was evil :/ .

Spiderman 4 was gonna have John Malcovich as the vulture…Thank goodness it didnt happen, cause it shows Raimi didnt learn anything from messing up the 3rd one. All I ever wanted from spiderman 3 was to either have a great venom story or have the lizard, but that was never going to happen with raimi, not even with a 4th film.

All of Raimi’s Spider-Man movies weren’t that good. It’s really the perfect example of why you should get people who really understand the character/history to make the films and NOT someone that claims to be a big fan via having a Spider-Man on your wall when you were 10.

I could handle the first one for being a decent origin and plot (not to mention I was excited because he was just in the costume and not black leather), and the second one could be considered a great movie on its own. But it’s the combined films of the whole franchise, not to mention all of the GREAT comic book movies to spoil us since then, that show how poor they really were.

The biggest offender of Sam’s films is mis-casting the two leads. There is no excuse to have a HORRIBLE Peter Parker AND Mary Jane. Peter is a pretty happy nerd, albeit not happy with his life in general, but escapes and gets to be himself when he has the mask on. He jokes, he’s excited, he’s loving life. Tobey sounded bored all of the time. Mary Jane is an upbeat, fun, beautiful girl who doesn’t really let most things get to her, in fact the only thing between her and Peter that caused problems was her concern over his safety. Sam’s MJ is an okay-looking hyper bitch by the end of the third movie, not to mention her hair is only right in the first movie.

Don’t get me wrong, all of the other casted actors were PERFECT. Even if their outfits were questionable at times.

The villains were also handled in Sam’s own way, instead of paying real respect to the characters. Osbourne was probably the closest, but Norman never really had trouble giving into his insanity. He embraced it, it’s what made him fantastically evil. That’s a nitpick, I feel he was the best villain in all the films. Doc Ock was turned into an innocent bystander for seemingly no reason. New Goblin was total shit an uninspired (AMNESIAAAA~) though I enjoyed that he went good by the end. Sandman was made TOO sympathetic (I like him for being just a regular non-evil goon that got powers, but everything they did with his story is too much). The symbiote was handled clearly by people who didn’t care about how it worked and Venom was literally given NO lines until Topher Grace (a real fan) improvised scenes to do the character justice.

Every film has the same/similar plot. Spider-Man is all cool, Spider-Man wants MJ (to be with him/to be with him instead of getting married/to marry him) even though there are clearly better women elsewhere, Spider-Man wonders if what he’s doing is right, MJ wants to not be with Peter, Spider-Man saves MJ from the bad guy, 1-2 of the bad guys die at the end (Venom is up in the air, though since the series doesn’t matter anymore neither does this).

In fact now that SM3 was brought up let’s get into that for a moment. It’s THE perfect example of why Raimi, as much as I love him, was the WRONG choice for Spider-Man. It was the first time he and his brother was writing the script, instead of Sam just directing. Everyone likes to claim the STUDIOS made Raimi add Venom and that’s why it sucked. But let’s be clear, with the except of just the dancing scene, everything that made SM3 bad was in the script before the studio pushed for Venom over Vulture (A SMART MOVE).

1 – There was still 3 villains in a film that focused 80% on Peter and MJ’s relationship
2 – Sandman still killed Uncle Ben
3 – There was still a pointless love triangle in addition to all the villains where the choices were “Bitch that only cares about herself” and “Really cool girl that likes you for who you are”
4 – Peter still wanted to murder Sandman (except now without the excuse of having a symbiote on)

Sam always wanted to tell HIS story, not the story that was best for Spider-Man. At the time the first two moveis were good, but then Iron Man, The Dark Knight, and even The INcredible HUlk came out all in the same year and showed us what a comic book movie SHOULD be.

This franchise NEEDED a reboot, desperately. I am looking forward to this film.

I respect your pov Steve, and maybe you are right concerning many points, putting apart the matter of taste. But come on! We will have Dragon Ball Z wearing the Golden shoes as Peter Parker! Blasphemy! ^^ And do you really think that Garfield will be that funny Peter ? He hasn’t the charm of a Chris Pine.
(The suit is awful by the way)

      • Steve Rudzinski

I think he’s a better choice than Tobey but I don’t know if he’s the best choice, I’ll have to see the film.

But yes the suit is pretty lame, reminds me way more of an alternate universe Spidey than Spider-Man.
