The superheroic summer season kickstarts with The Avengers this weekend, but other heroes are vying for attention.  The Dark Knight Rises put a bat-dent in The Avengers headlines by dropping an incredible trailer late last night and now The Amazing Spider-Man is hoping to snare some looks with two new posters.  We’ve recently posted clips, an international trailer, other posters and a couple sets of new images, but these new posters have an additional wrinkle: they both feature a suited-up Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) with extensive battle damage to his costume. I wonder who could have done that

Director Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man also stars Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen and Sally Field and opens July 3rd.  Hit the jump to check out the new posters.

The new posters for The Amazing Spider-Man follow after the official synopsis. Look for the film to drop in 2D/3D on July 3rd:

Like most teenagers his age, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today.  In his journey to put the pieces of his past together he uncovers a secret his father held…a secret that will ultimately shape his destiny as Spider-Man.  This is the first in a series of movies that tells a different side of the Peter Parker story.  On July 3rd, 2012, the untold story begins.

    Meh.
Particularly like the way the back of left arm disappears in the bottom one! (I know it doesn’t, but it’s too close for comfort)

Still not excited for this. I don’t care how many awesome posters Sony puts out. The reason they are going all out on these posters is because they know there is a vocal group out there that doesn’t care for this reboot.

  • Jon Snow

Also in the first poster, the streets in the background form the spiderman symbol for the movies. I think they thought it might be a nice easter egg, but it really just is so camouflaged it is very hard to notice, and doesn’t really have an good impact when you do see it.

2nd one looks a lot like the spider-man 2 poster. still cool though.

was trying to find a new poster to buy but all the poster places online only have old ones from the crappy Raimi movies.

Looks an awful lot like Gotham City.

Regardless of the vocal group or not this movie is going to make a shit load of money. Spider-Man is too well known around the world. People will go regardless. People are still going to watch this no matter how many fan boys march outside with picket sings. Even Spider-Man 3 did well and the movie had bad word of mouth. And honestly if you’re against it that much why go out of your way to read articles to do about the film?

So strange that in what looks like is going to be an amazing summer movie season with films like Avengers, Prometheus, and Dark Knight Rises, I’m just not that excited about a new Spider-Man movie, and he’s one of my favorite all time characters.

I’m sure the movie will do great box office, and it may not even be a bad film. But nothing released so far in promotional material really makes this stand out.

Marvel needs to get its hands back on the movie rights for its flagship character.

He seems to be higher than every building in the city, so I wonder what he is swinging on.
