In case you missed the sneak-preview of footage from Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man, you’re in luck! We’ve recapped it for you here along with images from the film thus far. But what you really came here for is the new trailer, which is much better than the previous one, which started by highlighting a young Peter Parker and finished with a “Mirror’s Edge” style parkour run over the rooftops from Spidey’s perspective. We get a nice look at the budding relationship of Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy as well as the friction building between Parker/Spider-Man and George Stacy. You’ve got web-slinging, a nod to Parker’s genius through his high-tech gadgets and chalkboard equations and glimpses of Ifans as The Lizard! Much more encouraging.
The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Rhys Ifans and opens in theaters July 3rd. Hit the jump to check out the new The Amazing Spider-Man trailer.

For more Spider-Man coverage: over 25 new images, our recap from the footage shown at the Spider-Man preview event, the beginning of the viral campaign, and a gallery of all the images released thus far.

amazing-spider-man-andrew-garfield-trailerOfficial synopsis:

One of the world’s most popular characters is back on the big screen as a new chapter in the Spider-Man legacy is revealed in The Amazing Spider-Man. Focusing on an untold story that tells a different side of the Peter Parker story, the new film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, with Martin Sheen and Sally Field. The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay written by James Vanderbilt, based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Laura Ziskin, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach are producing the film in association with Marvel Entertainment for Columbia Pictures, which will open in theaters everywhere in 3D on July 3, 2012.

The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Ifans), his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

    nice proofread. “cast”—case

  • obitwan

I think it looks pretty sick, better than Rami’s version for sure…

  • sense 11

    Fuck Yea, that was awesome

  • Mars

I thought the point of a reboot was to do something completely different. This looks like more of the same for the most part.

    • Liam_H

The point of reboots is to make money off the same things. Besides this one is going into his parents backstory.

    • Ringbearer1420

It reminds me of the remake of Ringu; it’s really easy to remake a film when you just comestically improving what’s been done before. The Raimi films made this property the type of property (like Batman and Bond) and anyone would work on regardless of who’s making it. As a movie lover i’m becomong more and more jaded by the shallowness of alot of what this generation of filmaker is offering.

  • PrawnHunter

The Untold Story? It was told a couple of years ago, no?

    • Dogg

Yeah, I can’t believe they’re making me sit through the origin story again. Raimi did that just fine.
Will the spider bite him this time around??? The suspense is killing me.

      • PrawnHunter

it’s Hollywood extending a grubby hand and saying “spare some change?”

looks like a charmless load of old shit, let’s be honest.

  • defiant

They GOT Parker’s sense of humor!! this is looking a whole lot more like what i was expecting back in 2002…give it up to Andrew Garfield!!

  • Anon

The only tiny let down is The Lizard… BUT i’m sure they will improve the CG nearing it’s release date so.. All is well :)

  • Strong Enough

am not going to judge the movie based on the trailer cause X-Men’s first class trailer was dog crap and the movie was Fantastic. So i’ll wait until the movie comes out. am curious to see what indie man Marc Webb was cooked up.

    • nelson

got to be trolling x men first class had phenomenal trailers

      • PrawnHunter

‘phenomenal’ might be going a tad too far, surely.

      • Aurora Vampiris

Several people complained about the First Class trailer – half of it was basically “Before he was Magneto… he was Erik” stuff. The trailer had nothing to do with the actual story.

  • Sugreev2001

Well I’ll be damned ! Marc Webb has seemingly done it.I was on the fringes like every other fan of the Raimi/Maguire trilogy, but I wanted this to be as good if not better. This certainly amps my hype.

  • aaronsullivan

I’m duly impressed. This will get me in the seats unless early word turns especially sour.

To me, this felt VERY different from the recent Raimi movies. There’s room for both, I think.

I especially like the more practical feel to the action and web slinging and that from just a few character moments, Peter Parker seems like a different person than in the Raimi take.

  • Jason White

Anyone who is familiar not only with Garfield movie work but also his British TV work (Boy A, Red Riding) will have 100% faith in him.
He is a fantastic young actor who is yet to have a bad role.

The film has the same dark tone as the recent Batman film, though as we have a Lizard as the villain, obviously not as based in reality as those.
The set piece look like they are going to be great.
I’d love for them to do what Nolan does and totally disregard 3D and go for the IMAX footage. The film is dark anyway; why darken it even more with 3D.
IMAX would totally suit the rooftop scenes.

    • Nmaster

I believe the film has been shot in 3D – which is what makes it so dark!!!

I don’t agree with 3D (think its a gimmick – especially post-converted), but it might work well with spider-man swing at you through the screen.

I’m looking forward 2 garfield’s performance as well, but the humour is off.
Shame the spider bite didn’t give him a funny bone… :-)

      • Jason White

        I agree. 3D is a cop-out.
I dulls the colour by about 30%. and then you put the glasses on and it makes it even so.
Post conversions are no good. Take Harry Potter 7b.
The first part wasn’t 3D bu the second had a post-conversion thrown on and it was bad. Made it even darker.
In regards to 3D, didn’t mind it on Up and Hugo as it was used to tell the story about the history of cinema, but all else for me was a big fail.
        IMAX is the way forward.

Going to be interesting to see if they can get the balance right between gritty, realist cityscapes and CGI lizard.
        Hope so.

  • Aurora Vampiris

That looks… nice. I’m optimistic. Cautiously optimistic.

Im far from being a spidey fan but i have to say this, the trailer looks fucking awesome… well done mr Webb.

  • henri

    looks good,will see this

  • jarvis3205

Wow…in a good way too. That was actually kinda imperssive. Very well put together & B-E-A-Utifully shot. Still not sold/down with the “man-lizard” version of the Lizard though.

I know that’s how he started back in the 60′s…but I kinda dig on the “lizard-man” version.

But…I don’t see an extra set of legs poppin outta Spidey’s back…so que sera sera.

  • jimmy

It looks OK at most. The action looks silly as well as the scenes with Peter slinging around the city. Looks like a cartoon; and not in a retrospective way.

    • jimmy

Nostalgic way! That’s what I meant.

    • Alex-mansy

Agreed. Glad it doesn’t look terrible but was expecting for it to be underwhelming and it is.

Am expecting a boring film, so I’ll catch it on dvd instead.

  • LEM

It looks cool and it seems like they get through some BS rather quickly instead of rehashing the origin story the whole time.

  • AnaB

    Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!!!

  • Dare Devil

This new spidey looks cool, Andrew is good new spidey most of all he’s funny .So Peter is the one who creates Lizard every thing was fantastic, the only effects where were bit was at 1:25 swinging was too shaky hope it’s still unfinished one

  • Sean

MUCH improved over the previous trailer! The new scenes look great, CGI Lizard notwithstanding. That said, it’s still just a trailer, and even the best of those is no match for a trusty Tomato-meter. Here’s hoping there’s one more great superhero movie to see this summer instead of one more embarrassment!

  • It’s Called A Phone!

    Lame.

  • Tarek

Much better than the first crappy trailer. still…Garfield is not Parker for me.

and…where is this “sense of humor” everybody is talking about ? Maybe it is Mark Webb who is the Jokester here…^^

    • Chris

So, did you like Tobey better then?

      • Tarek

Not the best choice maybe, but if I have to chose, I’ll take Tobey over Garfield any day.

  • terry

    I don’t know! I big a$$ lizard? Please. WTF!
And what is Spider man fighting for in this movie? Oh, he’s trying to stop a bad guy , no , a misdirected scientist Parker’s father worked with. Of course his father’s leather attaché was the major plot point. By having it in his possession Parker finds his father’s access card, goes to his place of work(OF COURSE HE DOES! IF DOESN’T THE PROTAGONIST AND THE ANTAGONIST WON’T MEET AND WE WOULDN’T HAVE A STORY! HELLO!) That is the set up.

Act 1: Parker lives in angst. He is looking for questions.
Act 2:Parkers goes to his father’s place of work, screws arounds and touches sh** he ain’t suppose to be touching and gets bit. Of course he gets bit! Then he meets his father’s co worker and all this philosophical exposition(blah blah blah) comes out and inevitably leads to the fight against what’s right(Parker) and what’s wrong(Lizard).
Act 3: An exhaustive CG fest were Parker and Lizard a$$ whoop each other all over the goddamn place.
    The end.

  • Josh

This trailer helped calm me down. I had faith before, but always had this little bug in my stomach worrying me. That bug is now gone. Also, for people still bashing the whole “untold story”, this one focuses on figuring out what his fathers association with Oscorp. This one is more based on figuring out who he is as a person and who his parents were. I don’t believe Sam Raimi’s films talked about that.

  • Deepak

I think I’m sold, so long as they don’t try too hard to push it into Christopher Nolan territory. The cast especially looks really good (my only potential caveat is Ifans, but I’ll hold off judgment til I see the movie).

  • kirk

At least it looks much better than the overrated Avengers trailer.

  • Andrew

    It doesn’t look bad but i can’t see it topping Rami’s Spiderman2.
Also,Lizard isn’t one of my fave spidey villains.
I’ll wait for the reviews before forking out for a cinema seat methinks.

  • Pragmator

    I’m very encouraged by this trailer. Finally I get a live-action Spider-Man who’s a smart-ass.

  • Tim

    I do not like this.

Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield look out of place. She is just bleghh. I just don’t find her to be a good actress.

What was wrong with the 2000 version. Even the trailer for that looks sooo much better than this…

    • Greengo

What was wrong with the 2000 version?

Well let’s see; The characters where one dimensional and nothing like there comic book counter parts, with the exception of J. K. Simmons the acting was terrible, the story line was pathetic, the dialogue was awful, and the movie felt like it was made for kids rather than adults.

There is ALOT more, but I will just leave it at this for now.

  • Dsimolke

This looks pretty good, but the CGI looks REALLY CGI. Are they not done cleaning it up in post-production yet or something? Not digging that.

  • Wladicito

The title of this film would be “emo-spidey vs. Killer Croc”…

Has anyone actually watched the Raimi films recently? It seems like they get by on all this street cred since they were so early in the super hero movie boom of the past decade or so. But I just watched the first one again, and man, it makes the 60′s Batman show look tame. Super campy, and 40 year old Tobey with his double chin doesn’t look like Peter at all. Much better casting and tone so far from what i’ve seen. Also, awesome use of Gwen Stacey instead of MJ.

  • Kimian

This looks cheesy !!!! I will wait for Reviews before going for it !!!!!

    • Jason White

      Cheesy?
      Really?
A dude in a spider costume.
      No fooking way.

  • Kimian

It Looks Cheesy !!!! I will wait for reviews before watching this !!!!

  • SpiderHam

Ummmmm. No. So, the untold story is, Peter Parker’s parents are spies (or, something) and that he was PURPOSELY turned into ‘spider-man’?! *cough* bullsh*t *cough*. Sorry, Sony and it’s highly paid shills, this looks like garbage. Garfield looks like he just woke up the whole time and Stone looks like she’s WAY outta her league. Pass. Not buying it. Won’t even sneak in for free.

  • T2

Though Raimi’s Spiderman was good, and part 2 was even better…..I think there were still some moments in his that were so dang corny that I wasn’t suprised they went with a new direction. I mean, 3 was the bad one and for him to say that the studio jammed Venom down his face and that’s why part 3 was so rushed and bad is just a cop out!!! I mean, come on, did the studio make him do that ridiculous dance scene with Gwen Stacy??? He made that movie just plane stupid, in my opinion. Raimi’s a good filmaker, but I think this one is going to be better. Christopher Nolan changed everything for comic movies……he made everyone stepped it up a couple of notches….and I think this one just might be what fans are looking for! Just my opinion though!

  • sense 11

    Looks Fantastic,
this is a newer better Spiderman

  • Reckoning

mmmm i dont like the tone of the movie, its too serious for spiderman and also it seems that the director will not do better actions scenes than the raimis films.
Ive got faith in the actors tough

    • Jay

Seeing as how dark the comics got, I think the tone is fine.

You know a trailer must be cool when 50 people chime in in less then to give their opinions. I believe this movie is picking up some momentum big time and maybe one more trailer before release could do the trick.

  • John

This looks so stupid. I couldn’t even make it through the trailer without getting bored. Hate the way it’s shot, and Peter Parker looks like he came out of Twilight ugh

  • Jamesy

Actually pleasantly surprised? Although it may be the same story it looks asif its in a totally different direction, if that makes sense? Peter Parkers character certainly seems very different, well more in keeping with the comics with the sense of humour etc, I’ll certainly give it a watch!

  • SciFan

I wish Spiderman would keep his mask on during the action sequences.

I think they’re purposely undermining the humorous aspect of Spidey for the trailers. It might be a part of the film (and from what I’ve heard of the sizzle reel, it is).

Imagine a humorous Spidey trailer – people might just about equate that with a parody. And parodies… especially superhero parodies do not do well at the box office.

They have to be very careful here. Especially since this is a re-imagining of Spider-Man (although I’m getting a distinct Ultimate Spider-Man vibe here – the more realistic bullying, as opposed to the cartoonish bullying in the first film etc.).

  • Aurora Vampiris

I think they’re deliberately under-stating the funnier aspects of Spidey for the purpose of the trailer – it might still be a part of the film (and from what I’ve read about the sizzle reel, the movie seems to be poised to be funny).

Imagine if they presented a genuinely funny trailer of Spider-Man – people might be inclined to think it’s a parody of a superhero film IMO. And superhero comedies do NOT do well at the box office.

    • Aurora Vampiris

      Dammit. Double post.

  • Grant keanan

Just upgraded this to a maybe see sometime in theatre (depending on fan …not critics reviews at the time).
This had been consigned to wait till it shows up in the bargain bin at WalMart for me, based on the plot synopsis.
I for one am sick and tired of ‘origins’ stories, there’re a gazillion Spiderman adventure stories out there why they wanted to do another ‘origins’ story still baffles me.I thought the first one was darn good .
Anyway if this is in 3D am not bothering!

  • Chachi

Hate on fan boys, hate on. Looks great. I’m sure there was similar “we don’t need an origin story” sentiment with Batman Begins. Everyone who is even remotely familiar with Spiderman (or Batman, or Superman, or Iron Man or Dipshitman or Cool, man) already knows the origin of the hero, so I couldn’t care less if this movie is an origin retelling as long as it’s entertaining and this trailer makes it look like it will be very entertaining. I do wish Raimi would have had the chance to rectify the abortion that was Spiderman 3, but so it goes and now this looks bad ass. Looking forward to checking it out.

    • Aurora Vampiris

Good point (a bit condescending though). What fanboys don’t appreciate is that they ARE the vocal minority – while they might seem loud, they don’t contribute as much to the larger gross revenue of the film.

If the film fails, it will not be because of the costume or the mechanical web-shooters or because Sony sacked Raimi. It shall be because the film itself isn’t very good. Or because the film IS good and the marketing team did a shoddy job of promoting it.

  • Scotty

AWESOME! Andrew looks perfect! So so so excited! and it really looks different from the previous movies i didnt think that could be pulled off. SO COOL!

  • ooazaru

    The trailer looks good.
But no way it will beat the action in raimi’s films

  • Mikhail Tomasi VII

I’ve Been Reading Through These Comments & A Good Amount of Them Are Idiotic. People Don’t Ever Do Research So Here Is Clarification For You Lazy Ones.

    (1) This Is THE UNTOLD STORY For A Reason. The SAM RAIMI “Films” Never Delved Into Peter Parker’s (Spider-Man) Past. In SAM RAIMI’s “Films”, Uncle Ben & Aunt May Were Included But Not Peter’s Parents. This Is Going To Be A True Origin One. This One Is Going To Be What The First Spider-Man Should Have Been. This Reboot IS What A Spider-Man Movie Should Be. You, Whoever You Are, Should Think of This One As What “THE INCREDIBLE HULK” was To “HULK”.

    (2) ANDREW GARFIELD Is An Exceptional Actor. Those Who Are Saying That He Is Going To Play A Horrible SPIDER-MAN Should Go Jump Off A Bridge For Not Recognizing Real Talent When You See It. NEVER LET ME GO, BOY A, & THE SOCIAL NETWORK Were All Outstanding Films. He Is Only 28 Years Old & Has The Acting Quality of A Senior.

This Film Will Be Incredible No Doubt About It!

I am very cautious about this movie. So far, all the trailers that I’ve seen have not had any effect on me what so ever. Although I had tons of negative feedback towards Sam Raimi’s trilogy, I must say that I enjoyed that franchise very much despite a lot of let downs like emo-Peter and other notables that many have pointed out. I want to love this movie so much being that I’m such a big fan growing up to the comics but the picture quality for this new (so called) “Amazing” Spider-man is not catching my attention at all. They gave us fair warning about lowering their budget for the next Spidey sequels which is basically a slap in the face for us fans/nerds/movie-goers alike being that they made over a billion in the franchise. I have followed Sony for years and have been a loyal costumer with their products but I have to say that are very greedy for making a move like this. They have downgraded the look and feel of this film meanwhile we will all be paying more money at the theatre compared to what the prices were a decade ago. Very disappointed so far with what is being released…….we’ll soon see if I am wrong. Good luck to those that do go see it!
