‘American Assassin’ Photos See Dylan O’Brien Back in Action After ‘Maze Runner’ Injury
After injuring himself on the set of Maze Runner: The Death Cure, actor Dylan O’Brien is back in action. A batch of new photos from American Assassin, a film adapted from Vince Flynn’s novel of the same name, have arrived to reveal Michael Keaton, Taylor Kitsch, and more in the film.
According to USA Today, which debuted the photos, American Assassin is currently filming in London. O’Brien portrays Mitch, a young man, who’s about to propose to his girlfriend when tragedy strikes. Almost two years later, we catch back up with him as a CIA black ops recruit tasked to train with Stan Hurley (Keaton), a training officer and Cold War veteran. While trying to track down missing weapons-grade plutonium, the pair uncover a global terrorism organization.
Also featured in the film and the photos are Shiva Negar as a Turkish agent working with Mitch and Hurley, Sanaa Lathan as Deputy Director of the CIA Irene Kennedy, and Kitsch as a former government operative and the mysterious villain who goes by many names. Whatever the name, he’ll be the dark reflection of Mitch to show what he could’ve become if he succumbed to his tragic past.
Earlier this year, O’Brien suffered severe injuries on the Maze Runner film set, prompting Fox to postpone the project indefinitely. However, filming was scheduled to pick back up early next year with a new release on January 12, 2018.
American Assassin, directed by Michael Cuesta (Kill the Messenger), doesn’t have a release date, but here’s the official plot synopsis:
AMERICAN ASSASSIN follows the rise of Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien) a CIA black ops recruit under the instruction of Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton). The pair is then enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) to investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on both military and civilian targets. Together the three discover a pattern in the violence leading them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent (Shiva Negar) to stop a mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) intent on starting a World War in the Middle East.
