Fans of Neil Gaiman's bestselling "American Gods" novel will have to wait until 2017 to see Bryan Fuller and Michael Green's TV series adaptation on Starz, but the first trailer is available right now. It's a good look at the tone and production value of American Gods, even if the video quality is oddly low for the first official reveal from the network. Still, it's great to see all of Gaiman's Old and New Gods in action.

Ricky Whittle stars as the protagonist Shadow Moon, who soon comes into a business arrangement with a mysterious man named Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane). Emily Browning also stars as Shadow's wife Laura, with Gillian AndersonYetide BadakiPeter StormareDane CookBruce LangleyCloris LeachmanPablo SchreiberJonathan TuckerCrispin GloverOrlando Jones, and recent addition Kristin Chenoweth as Easter. There's a good amount of Easter eggs and plot points on display for book readers, but nothing too spoilery for viewers who are new to the fantastic world of American Gods.

Here's the first trailer for Starz' American Gods:

American Gods has been translated into over 30 languages and earned numerous accolades including Hugo, Nebula and Bram Stoker Awards for Best Novel. The plot posits a war brewing between old and new gods: the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs. Its protagonist, Shadow Moon, is an ex-con who becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to Mr. Wednesday, a conman but in reality one of the older gods, on a cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation to battle the new deities.
