The first trailer for Franck Khalfoun's Amityville: The Awakening is now available in all its horrific glory. It's the latest effort from Blumhouse Productions, the horror movie factory that's cranked out such modern scary stories as the Paranormal Activity, Insidious, and The Purge franchises. This time around, the production company will be revisiting a classic story, one that started on the big screen back in 1979 with Stuart Rosenberg's Oscar-nominated film, The Amityville Horror. Now, in the franchise's 13th installment, audiences will return to Amityville, New York in the modern, social media age.

As the newly revealed trailer and poster for the film remind us, the iconic house has a history of bloody murders. So when a single mother (Jennifer Jason Leigh) with a rebellious teenage daughter (Bella Thorne) and a bed-ridden son (Cameron Monaghan) move in, you just know that awful, awful things are about to happen. Amityville: The Awakening definitely puts a new spin on the story, which grants the cast and the special effects team a bit more freedom with how they roll out the scares. It's just unfortunate that this trailer commits the cardinal sin of revealing too much, too quickly. Also starring Kurtwood Smith and Mckenne Grace, the film itself opens April 1st.
