Opening this weekend is writer-director Jimmy Hayward’s animated family movie, Free Birds.  The film centers on two turkeys who travel back in time in order to try to undo the tradition of eating turkey on Thanksgiving.  The voice cast is led by Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson, with Amy Poehler, Dan Fogler, Lesley Nicol, George Takei, Colm Meaney, and Keith David filling out the ensemble.  For more on the film, watch the trailer, or click here for all our previous coverage.

At the recent L.A. press day, I landed a video interview with Poehler.  She talked about making Free Birds, the recording process, how she was approached to be in the film, the concept of time traveling turkeys, and what is it like to work with Nick Offerman, who plays the indelible Ron Swanson, on Parks and Recreation.  Hit the jump for what she had to say.

Amy Poehler:

  • How does she manage to work with Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman) on a daily basis?
  • She's done a lot of voice over work.  Was anything different about making Free Birds?
  • When she was approached for the project, did they tell her it would involve time traveling turkeys?
  • How was she presented with the material?
