Today, via press release, NBC Universal confirmed the addition of all four previously mentioned new cast members for Saturday Night Live along with the announcement of a sketch comedy veteran returning to host the season premiere later this month. Parks and Recreation star Amy Poehler will return to the series that launched her career to host the September 25th season premiere of SNL with musical guest, pop star Katy Perry. Poehler spent eight years on the sketch comedy series before leaving the show to pursue new opportunities in comedy and her return will be warmly welcomed by cast members and fans alike.
Meanwhile, Katy Perry will make her first appearance on the show as the musical guest, and hopefully she’ll get in on some of the hilarity. There’s always a chance her current significant other, British funnyman Russell Brand, could make a surprise appearance as well. She won’t be the only first since Vanessa Bayer, Paul Brittain, Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah will all make their debut as cast members too. Though this is the first official word we’ve gotten on the new season, there’s no mention of anymore departing cast members following in the footsteps of Will Forte. I guess we’ll have to wait and see who comes back on September 25th.
