The first images of Oukast member Andre Benjamin (aka Andre 3000) as Jimi Hendrix have surfaced online. He’s playing the legendary guitarist in a biopic called All Is By My Side, which is currently filming in Dublin. The actor certainly has the physical resemblance down, but we don’t yet know if his acting ability is up to snuff. The film also stars Imogen Poots and Hayley Atwell, and the set photos here also include a brief shot of the latter. John Ridley wrote the script and is directing the pic, which will utilize interviews with the musician and archival footage of Hendrix to anchor the film’s structure.

I can’t help but imagine that Mos Def would have been better. He could have pulled off the look just as well, has some great musical talent if that was necessary, and most definitely(no pun intended) has the acting chops.
Uhh, Mos Def doesn’t have the idiosyncricies required to play this role. Andre 3000 is incredibly perfect casting.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Mos Def too, I loved him in Hitchhiker’s Guide.
I met both Mos Def & Andre 3000 at a Strokes show in early 2000s and they couldn’t have been nicer. Career Advice for Mos Def, he should pursue acting full time, it should be his day job.
