The remake of Logan's Run has burned through numerous directors and writers.  Directors Bryan Singer, James McTeigue (V for Vendetta), and Carl Erik Rinsch (the upcoming 47 Ronin) have all been attached in the past, and screenwriters including Alex Garland (28 Days Later) and Will Beall (Gangster Squad) have worked on the script. Hopefully the film has now found its dream-team in Drive director/star duo Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling.  The two are re-uniting for the sci-fi film which takes place in a dystopian future where no one is allowed to live past the age of 30.  Anyone who doesn't go quietly is a "runner" and has to be tracked down for extermination.According to Heat Vision, the project has now hired Andrew Baldwin to take on the screenplay.  None of Baldwin's previous scripts have made it to a finished feature, but he's been busy selling his work.  He gained attention from his Black List script The West Is Dead, he wrote Red Asphalt for director Timur Bekmembatov (Wanted), and Warner Bros. recently picked up his period Yakuza script The Outsider. Hit the jump for more on Logan's Run.The approach up until this point for Refn has been to take Logan's Run at his own pace.  He and Gosling are still working on the indie drama Only God Forgives, and they're trying to find their unique take on Logan's Run.  Refn said of the project back in June:

“Logan’s Run is dated in the sense that everything came true. They’ve been trying to make it for years with the notion of just trying to remake the original movie. And it has to be rethought.”

I haven't read any of Baldwin's previous scripts, but hopefully he's the right man for the job.  At least we can rest assured that Refn will be an active participant in the development of the screenplay.
