Some brief casting notes for you here with more details after the jump:

  • Angela Bassett (Malcolm X) is set to join Gerard Butler (300) and Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight) in Antoine Fuqua's Presidential thriller, Olympus Has Fallen.
  • Derek Luke (Antwone Fisher) will star opposite Paula Patton (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol) in Baggage Claim, from writer/director/producer David Talbert.
  • Robert Baker (Out of Time) and Brian Howe (The Pursuit of Happyness) are the most recent additions to the cast of Atom Egoyan's Devil's Knot, based on the true life saga of the West Memphis Three.

Variety reports that Bassett is set to play the head of the Secret Service in Olympus Has Fallen. The plot follows a takeover of the White House by North Korean terrorists with aims to set off nuclear weapons on U.S. soil. Eckhart will play the President while Butler stars as a heroic Secret Service agent who must save the day.  Olympus Has Fallen was written by debut scribes Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt.

Variety also reports that Luke will star opposite Patton in Baggage Claim, in which a flight attendant (Patton) remains the oldest unmarried woman in her family.  With her sister's impending marriage on the horizon, the flight attendant sets out to find a man within 30 days.  Luke plays her long-time friend and neighbor.  Look for Luke in the upcoming film, Sparkle.

Finally, from Deadline comes the word that Baker and Howe will join the cast of Devil's Knot. Already starring Colin Firth, Reese Witherspoon, Mireille Enos and Alessandro Nivola, Devil's Knot follows the story of three teenager accused of murdering three eight-year-old boys as part of a Satanic ritual.  Baker will star as Detective Bryan Ridge, one of the first responders and a core investigator on the case.  Howe will also star as a cop in the form of California's Detective McDonough, who gets drawn into the case while chasing down a lead.
