The Licensing Expo in Las Vegas has provided a lot of great first looks at Batman vs Superman costumes and props. But on the lighter side, there was also Rovio and the Angry Birds, the later of which Steve was able to capture (not fling) while at the Expo. The Angry Birds movie, which we haven’t heard much about for awhile, has set its release date for May 2016 in a new poster, which features three of the most well-known characters (including the ever-important bomb bird).

Further, Maya Rudolph and Peter Dinklage will also be part of the cast as Matilda and the Mighty Eagle, respectively. (Bill Hader is allegedly part of the porcine side of things, although his exact role has not been revealed).

The movie’s supporting voice cast will include Keegan-Michael Key, Kate McKinnon, Tony Hale, Ike Barinholtz, Hannibal Buress, Cristela Alonzo, Jillian Bell, Danielle Brooks, Romeo Santos and YouTube stars Smosh.

Currently, there is no official synopsis for the movie, which will mark Fergal Reilly and Clay Kaytis’ directorial debut. But, the May 2016 release date is earlier than was previously reported (July), which is an interesting move. The Angry Birds phenomenon seems to be waning in light of some other highly addictive and well-crafted apps, so surely Sony wants the movie released as soon as possible. On the other hand, there are never enough animated movies for kids in theaters, so regardless, it should do pretty well (even if some of the crossover potential for adults has waned).
