Video game adaptations have a dubious history in Hollywood. They’re just not very good. 2016 hosts a number of films hoping to break the video game curse, Assassin’s Creed and Warcraft among the most anticipated of them, but Sony is venturing into a brave new world with the first major mobile gaming adaptation, The Angry Birds Movie, which will presumably explain all your answered questions about the pissed-off projectile birds and why their always sabotaging the little pig homes.

Jason Sudeikis voices an angry bird named Red, who lives on an island populated almost entirely by flightless birds that is upended by the arrival of mysterious green piggies. Josh Gad voices the speedy bird Chuck and Danny McBride fills the role of the explosive Bomb in the film’s attempt to put a spin on the various types of birds one can control in the game.

Let’s just say I’m not exactly the target audience for this film. I never really dug on the game, am not a small child, and do not have a small child, so this trailer doesn’t do a lot for me. It will make children giggle. That’s not the worst thing in the world.

Watch the new Angry Birds trailer below. Directed by Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly, the voice cast also includes Maya Rudolph, Kate McKinnon, Tony Hale, Keegan-Michael Key, Bill Hader, and Peter Dinklage. The Angry Birds Movie opens in 3D on May 20, 2016.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Angry Birds Movie:

The movie takes us to an island populated entirely by happy, flightless birds – or almost entirely. In this paradise, Red (Jason Sudeikis – We’re the Millers, Horrible Bosses), a bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck (Josh Gad in his first animated role since Frozen), and the volatile Bomb (Danny McBride – This is the End, Eastbound and Down) have always been outsiders. But when the island is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to these unlikely outcasts to figure out what the pigs are up to.
