I'm usually the snarky one, but the following statement is all Entertainment Weekly: "A remake of 'Yogi Bear' seems to be an incredibly unnecessary project but with these inspired casting choices perhaps a good movie will prevail." I couldn't agree more except for the part about inspired casting choices because I never spent time thinking, "Gosh, who would be good in a movie I don't think should exist."  But it looks like Anna Faris, Dan Aykroyd, and Justin Timberlake will take a trip to Jellystone Park to tell the tale of a bear wearing a hat and a bowtie who steals pick-a-nik baskets.  Hit the jump for details.

EW reports that Anna Faris will play Rachel, a nature documentary filmmaker shooting Yogi and Boo-Boo for her next project.  I imagine the focus of her documentary is how and why are a large bear and a small bear able to talk, run on their hind legs, wear hats, bow-ties, and love stealing other peoples food when their main priority should be not being hunted down as aberrations of nature.  While unlikely, I'll hope that her close proximity to the bears will end about as well as it did for Timothy Treadwell.

Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake will lend their voices to Yogi and Boo-Boo, respectively.  I'm sure all three actors along with director Eric Brevig ("Journey to the Center of the Earth") and screenwriter from Brad Copeland ("Wild Hogs") will all say how they grew up watching the character or that he's iconic and that they want to bring him to a new generation.  I doubt any will have a good answer as to why the film needs to be the horrific live-action/CGI-animated blend we see with these films.  Are animated movies based on animated cartoons not allowed?  I know it's probably cheaper but on the other hand you get what you pay for and I'm not sure how many films we're going to have to go through in order for studios to learn the lesson of "Land of the Lost's" flop at the box office this past summer.
