At CinemaCon last week, 20th Century Fox unveiled some footage from the upcoming comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, and Collider’s own Steve Weintraub was onhand to take part in a lengthy interview with the film’s main trio, Anna Kendrick, Zac Efron, and Adam Devine. As the title suggests, the film takes place at a weeding, with Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza playing a pair of friends who pretend to be the ideal wedding dates in order to land a free trip to Hawaii with Efron and Devine’s characters. You can watch the red-band trailer here.
During the course of the very free-wheeling and very NSFW interview, the trio talked about the highly improvisational nature of the set—which was so improv-heavy that Devine doesn’t even remember saying what could become his catchphrase from the movie. They also discussed the intense process they put Efron through to let him join the film given that he hasn’t been in a Pitch Perfect movie, and Devine explains why audiences will have to wear diapers to every screening.
If that description didn’t make it clear, this is kind of a free-for-all interview and the affection these actors feel for each other is genuine. If their chemistry and humor in this interview is any indication, audiences are in for a hilarious time when Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates hits theaters on July 8th.
Here’s the official synopsis for Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates:
Hard-partying brothers Mike (Adam Devine) and Dave (Zac Efron) place an online ad to find the perfect dates (Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza) for their sister’s Hawaiian wedding. Hoping for a wild getaway, the boys instead find themselves outsmarted and out-partied by the uncontrollable duo.
