Last month, we reported that The Weinstein Company had picked up the rights to make the Judy Garland biopic "Get Happy" and I noted that it would be a choice role that any actress could sink her teeth into but they would have to be worthy of the part (and also need singing ability). While I don't know if Anne Hathaway has the pipes for it, I'm sure she'll be taking singing lessons and throwing herself head first into playing the part as all actors taking up biopics do. Personally, I couldn't be more excited about this choice. Not only is Hathaway gorgeous, gaining name-recogintion, and can play women of different ages (note her performance in "Brokeback Mountain"), but she's a highly gifted actress and TWC have made a casting coup by giving her the part.

UPDATE: I forgot that Hathaway sung with Hugh Jackman at this year's Oscars. Still, there's a world of difference between singing a few bars with Jackman and being able to emulate Garland's immense vocal talent. I'm not saying that Hathaway isn't up to the task, but I did want to note that. Also, the Weinsteins have also signed Hathaway to play the role on a stage adaptation but I don't think that will come about unless the film is successful.
